When the iPhone 11 comes out, we will be the first to test out the best methods for unlocking your iPhone 11 for any carriers. Typically, when a phone is in contract you cannot unlock your iPhone.
Easy Ways iCloud Unlock Your iPhone
(WE HAVE NEW TESTING RESULTS FOR 2019 – UPDATED)
Is it possible to unlock iCloud?
Did you recently purchase a used iPhone and realized that the phone is locked to the previous iCloud account? If your iPhone has an iCloud lock on it, it means that regardless of how much you paid for your second-hand phone, the previous owner can still block you from using it. They can do this by keeping the device locked to their iCloud account and not allowing you to log into the phone. There are two ways to get an iCloud unlocked by having the previous owner unlock it or by using a service that specializes in unlocking iCloud locks. The service frees your phone from the previous owner’s account and allows you to setup your own unlocked iCloud account on that phone, meaning you can start making calls, sending messages, and using apps.
Of the 9 iCloud activation unlock services we found and 2 we tested, the fastest, cheapest, and best supported provider is AppleiPhoneUnlock. They unlocked all 12 accounts we sent them, for the least money, and did it in the fastest time.

At the start of 2014, Apple added a quirk to iOS7 that changed the way that iPhone accounts were made available. It was a little thing called iCloud Bypass Activation Lock. The change made to iOS 7 (and carried through to iOS10, iOS11 and iOS 12) is that your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch is now locked to your personal iCloud account.
This means when you restart your Apple device you have to enter your iCloud username and password to access the features, functions, and files.
It’s not a big problem when you’re just using your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, but when you buy a second-hand device from StarGazer77 on eBay, and he doesn’t either remove his iCloud details or give you his access details, the phone is useless. Literally, useless.
It doesn’t matter if you reset it, jailbreak it, allow the battery to run completely flat, or pay someone to hack into it, you couldn’t use the phone. That means your $400 is down the drain, and you’re left with most expensive paperweight you’ve ever purchased.
In response to the massive demand that suddenly sprung up from disgruntled consumers who’d legitimately bought an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch and couldn’t use it, clever providers started investigating ways to bypass this barrier.
There were a lot of false starts and loopholes closed by Apple, but eventually, a fool-proof loophole emerged. And now, you can get the iCloud activation lock removed and use the iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch you paid your hard earned money for.
Choosing the right iCloud Unlock Provider
With all the providers flooding the market, it became difficult to tell who could legitimately unlock your iCloud account and who was just a scam shopfront setup to rip you off.
After being scammed three times by ‘Official’ unlock solutions, I decided to test and review them to find out who was the most reliable.
Why I’m qualified to tell you this
There are no degrees available in bypassing the iCloud lock so there are no technical qualifications I could hold to make me more qualified than the next guy to tell you about iCloud activation unlock, but there is one thing that makes me more of an expert than anyone else: testing.
I’ve reviewed 9 providers and tested 3 providers on all active iPhone models. And the simple fact that I’ve actually tested these providers with all models makes me the expert in the space.
There are other reviews available but most of them have never reviewed even one carrier, let alone reviewed all nine. That’s why I’m qualified to tell you this.
It’s easy. The steps to unlock with a service.
Step 1 – Visit the one of the recommended services we review found below in this article
Step 2 – Enter your IMEI or Serial Number of your phone or device
- If your iPhone is active: Dial *#06# to get your IMEI or go to Settings -> General -> About -> then Scroll down to find the IMEI number
- If your device is not active: Located on the activation screen, there will be a little “i” icon on the screen. Tap to that button and you will get your IMEI number
Step 3 – Wait for confirmation that your iCloud Lock has been unlocked!
Step 4 – Now create a new account and start using your device
This service works on all iPhone 7, 7 plus, 6, 6 plus, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4 and iPad 4, 3, 2 Air 2.
Test Methodology For Having iCloud Locked
The way I conducted these tests was simple. First of all, I Googled iCloud unlock providers and drew up a list of everyone I could find. After removing services that didn’t look like they were still active, I was left with nine services.
The next step in the process was to cull that list down from nine operators to my top three. I wanted my test of each operator to be comprehensive and complete and it wasn’t possible to rigorously test all 9 operators. To do this, I jumped onto review websites such as TrustPilot and RipoffReport to weed out any obviously dodgy operators.
I read the reviews and tallied up the average score of each service provider giving me an average score for each. I cut the lowest scoring six services and was left with three to test.
To make sure I had enough devices to thoroughly test each provider, I put the call out to all my readers to get iPhones that need unlocking. I wanted to get people in a variety of countries and using a variety of models.
Of the 73 who responded, I chose 12 to test (12 for each provider):
- 1 x iPhone X
- 1 x iPhone XS
- 1 x iPhone XS Max
- 1 x iPhone 8
- 1 x iPhone 7
- 1 x iPhone 7 Plus
- 1 x iPhone 6
- 1 x iPhone 6 Plus
- 1 x iPhone 6s
- 1 x iPhone 6s Plus
- 1 x iPad Pro 2018
- 1 x iPad Air
The chosen applicants then sent me their IMEI codes and I placed the orders.
The iCloud providers were judged based on 4 criteria:
Criteria 1: Price
Price range varied greatly between providers. Some were as little as $15 whilst others were as much as $149. There are very few people on this earth who can purchase services without being price conscious so this is where we started our assessment.
Criteria 2: Customer service
Handing over your device details and a chunk of cash to an unknown website to perform a service you know very little about can be a little nerve-wracking, but having a supportive and understanding person on the other end of the customer support line can help calm those nerves.
We tested each service provider three times during the course of the unlocking process:
- Before the purchase
- After the purchase but before the unlock was complete
- After the unlock iCloud service was complete
This was to get a comprehensive understanding of who was really there to help and who was there just to take your money.
Criteria 3: Success
What the point in great prices and caring customer support if they can deliver on what they promised? Because of this, the third criteria is: success. It’s a simple pass/fail criteria. If the iCloud account was unlocked, it was a success. If not, then no.
Criteria 4: Speed
Getting your iCloud account unlocked is great, but waiting can be frustrating. To compare apples to apples, we didn’t assess the sites on how long they said it would take to free the iCloud account, just how long it actually took to unlock them.
The Top 2 iCloud Unlock Providers
As with anything in life, not all iCloud activation unlock providers are the same. Some have low prices but no customer support. Some will answer your email within five minutes, but take four weeks to unlock your iPhone.
After assessing 9 providers and testing them, these are the top two providers:
1. AppleiPhoneUnlock – 9.5/10 (Best iCloud Unlock Provider)
AppleiPhoneUnlock.uk is my number 1 choice for iCloud unlocks. We’ve tested them based on the above four criteria and they came out top in all four.
First of all, they unlocked every device we sent them. They were assigned versions of iPads and iPhone models from 6 to XS to unlock and completed every single one of them (the only one to do so). That’s always a good place to start.
Secondly, they unlocked them all quickly. The total time for completing all twelve iPhones was only a TOTAL of 24 days. This is the breakdown:
- 1 x iPhone X – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone XS – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone XS Max – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 8 – 3 days
- 1 x iPhone 7 – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 7 Plus – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 6 – 1 day
- 1 x iPhone 6 Plus – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 6s – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 6s Plus – 1 day
- 1 x iPad Pro 2018 – 3 days
- 1 x iPad Air – 2 days
When you consider that most iCloud unlock providers take at least a week, this is stellar.
Thirdly, their customer support rocks. I contacted them before, during, and after the service was completed and the most I ever had to wait to hear back was forty-five minutes. And even better than that, when I did contact them, they were polite, helpful, and answered my questions completely.
And finally, they’re the cheapest of the bunch. They might only be $1 cheaper than our #2 recommendation, but we live in a world where every dollar counts and it’s better to have it in your pocket than someone else’s!
Unfortunately, there’s nothing really to write here. I try to make my reviews as unbiased and even-handed as possible and I don’t have anything to add right now. Could their customer support have responded in less than 45 minutes? Sure, they could have, but it wouldn’t have made that much difference. Could they have unlocked all the iCloud accounts in less time? Possibly, but it wouldn’t have made that much difference.
Without nit-picking for the sake of it, there’s nothing to really add here.
AppleiPhoneUnlock was the only provider to unlock all 6 accounts and because of that, they’re my #1 choice. And if that wasn’t enough, they have great customer service, the cheapest prices (even if it’s only by $1), and they’re the fastest of the group.
If your iPhone is locked to an iCloud account and you need to get it unlocked –> iCloud Unlock Here.
2. DoctorUnlock – Alternative Unlock iCloud Service 7.5/10
DoctorUnlock is my second choice. Not because they’re a terrible provider, but simply because they’re not as good as AppleiPhoneUnlock..
DoctorUnlock mostly do what they say they’re going to do. I purchased 12 iCloud unlocks and they managed to unlock 11 of them. 11 out of 12 isn’t bad when you consider that most providers have less than a 50% success rate, but it’s still not 8 out of 8.
The total time it took to unlock the iCloud accounts was longer than advertised (30 days total), but they still delivered. Here’s a breakdown of how long it took to unlock each iCloud account.
- 1 x iPhone X – 3 days
- 1 x iPhone XS – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone XS Max – 3 days
- 1 x iPhone 8 – 3 days
- 1 x iPhone 7 – 4 days
- 1 x iPhone 7 Plus – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 6 – 2 day
- 1 x iPhone 6 Plus – 2 days
- 1 x iPhone 6s – 3 days
- 1 x iPhone 6s Plus – 1 day
- 1 x iPad Pro 2018 – 3 days
- 1 x iPad Air – N/A
Their customer support is efficient and will answer your questions, but it might take a few days. And as I said above, they’re only $1 more expensive than AppleiPhoneUnlock.
Firstly, they failed to unlock 1 iCloud account. Yes, they gave us a refund straight away, but they still failed to deliver.
Secondly, their unlock times are a slower as well. DoctorUnlock was unlocking iCloud accounts in 1-2 days, these guys are more like 3-4 days. It’s not a HUGE issue, but it’s still twice as long to wait without a phone you’ve already paid for.
And finally, whilst their customer support responded in a few days, their responses were always curt and specific. There was nothing in the email other than the only information they needed to answer the question. Whilst they technically did their job, it was very cold and clinical.
You can check out their website here: Unlock your iCloud
Having an iPhone locked to someone else’s iCloud account sucks. They can effectively hold you ransom and make you pay whatever they wanted to get access to the phone you’ve already paid for. And nobody wants that. If you have your icloud locked, there are many available services and you can beat their scams without having to pay them a cent.
Of the 9 iCloud unlock providers we found and the 3 we tested, the winner was clear: AppleiPhoneUnlock.
They’re the fastest, cheapest, have the more responsive customer support, and were the only provider who successfully completed all 6 iCloud unlocks we sent them.

Want to know how to unlock iPhone 7?
Owning the brand new iPhone 7 or 7 plus is exciting. Being locked to a carrier who charges through the roof and gives you substandard customer service is not…
If you want to switch to a carrier that actually provides value for money, or even just want to be able to use a local carrier while overseas, you need an IMEI unlock.
An IMEI unlock safely and permanently frees your iPhone 7 from your carrier meaning you’re able to use your device with whichever provider you want.
The cheapest and most reliable iPhone 7 IMEI provider to use depends on your location.
Unlocking Guide – How To Unlock Your iPhone 7/Plus & 7s/Plus?
The latest and greatest iPhone has landed on our shores, and with it comes the same old problems. Phone service providers are still charging ridiculous fees, providing poor network availability and customer service, and charging crazy international roaming fees to anyone who heads overseas.
Phone locking is where your mobile device is tied to a particular carrier and you’re not able to use it with any other carrier. This means they can charge what they want and provide as little as they want and they know you’re not going to leave them.
That is, of course, unless you unlock your iPhone 7 or 7 plus.
Phone unlocking is where you remove the restrictions that prevent you from using your device with another carrier and get the freedom to escape all the problems they’re creating.
There are three methods for unlocking available on the market. But, only one that works…
Method #1: Software Method
(Hasn’t worked since the iPhone 3G)
The first iPhone unlocking method to appear on the market was the software unlock. It first became available when the iPhone 3G first hit the market and exploited a hardware loophole on the device to allow some users to move their device to any carrier they wanted.
Method #2: Hardware Method
(Dangerous, unreliable, and will void your warranty)
You can also get your iPhone 7 unlocked by the hardware method. This method identified once the software unlocking loophole was closed was hardware process. Hardware unlocking is where you pay a suspicious looking guy in a suspicious looking back alley to physically open up your device and play with its internal hardware.
Method #3: IMEI Unlocking
(Only safe and effective method for iPhone 7 / 7 Plus)
Each device has a different IMEI and it’s stored on the Apple database along with other identifying features, including model number, colour, storage size, year of production, and most importantly, whether it’s locked to a particular network.
An IMEI solution is where the status of your iPhone is changed from being locked to a particular network to being unlocked on the Apple database.
IMEI Unlock Provider Testing Process
The explosion of iPhone sales over the last 8 years has been followed by an explosion of IMEI unlock providers. And as with any industry, the quality, level of service, and reliability of those providers varies greatly.
To make sure you only end use an IMEI provider who’s going to deliver, I’ve gone through and reviewed and tested the major players in the industry.
Even though I’ve already done this with both iPhone 5/S/C/ and iPhone 6/6 Plus/6s/6s Plus, it was important to make sure that these service providers could deliver with the newest Apple 7. Here’s how I conducted that test.
- Skip testing methodology and go straight to test results
Finding Test Subjects
Probably the hardest part of this test was finding enough people with an 7 or 7 Plus who wanted them freed up! It’s a new phone and most people haven’t had enough time to become dissatisfied with the level of service provided just yet. But, I didn’t manage to find 8 Apple 7 phone owners and 4 iPhone 7 Plus owners through my network of friends and website readers to test these IMEI providers with.
These iPhone 7’s were locked to the following networks:
- 3 x locked to AT&T USA
- 2 x locked to Sprint USA
- 1 x locked to Vodafone UK
- 1 x locked to O2 UK
- 1 x locked to T-Mobile USA
These iPhone 7’s Plus were locked to the following networks:
- 1 x locked to AT&T USA
- 1 x locked to EE UK
- 1 x locked to KDDI Japan
- 1 x locked to Rogers Canada
Culling Down Factory Unlock Providers
The first step in testing these factory providers was to reduce the 29 providers down to a number I could test. I only had 12 phones to play with and I wanted to test each provider with multiple phones so I had to reduce the number down to three.
To do this, I created a list of unlock providers and then set about reading through various online review websites like TrustPilot and Ripoff Report to find who was legitimate provider and who was simply running a scam.
It was easy to weed out the obvious scams and keep reducing the list until I had what looked like the top three iPhone 7 IMEI providers.
The test itself was simple. I purchased 4 iPhone 7 IMEI unlocks from each of three providers I’d identified as being legitimate.
There are 6 criteria I used to judge the performance of these providers:
Criteria 1: Success of unlock
This has to be #1 here: did they or did they not deliver on their promise to free the phone they were paid to unlock? If they did, hooray! If they didn’t, boo!
Success / failure is critical because THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE PAID TO DO.
Criteria 2: Range of services available
There’s no point in recommending an IMEI provider if they can only unlock iPhone 7’s locked to some obscure carrier in a small eastern-European country that no-one’s ever heard of.
The recommended provider needs to have solutions for a wide range of carriers from a wide range of countries, otherwise, there would be no point in recommending them.
Criteria 3: Cost
It’s great for these providers to have a wide range and actually deliver on their promises, but if each methods costs more than the phone they’re unlocking, what’s the point?
Because of this, the third criteria used to judge the quality of the providers was cost, with preference given to the cheapest provider who could deliver a quality product.
Criteria 4: Payment Methods
Can free up my iPhone 7? Great. Have a big range of unlocks? Awesome. Have decent prices? Excellent. Only accept payments with seashells sent via registered post to the Solomon Islands? Bad. Obviously, this isn’t a real scenario, but there are some IMEI providers who only accept Western Union money transfer, which is a pain in the arse, whereas other accept PayPal and all major credit cards. It’s pretty easy to guess who I’m going to recommend.
Criteria 5: Customer Service
Paying someone you’ve never met before to perform a process you’re not familiar with can be a nerve-wracking experience. The only thing that can calm these nerves is solid customer service.
Because of this, each provider will be tested three times through the services’ process for their contact types, politeness, responsiveness, and helpfulness
Criteria 6: Speed
While you want your mobile device unlocked, you don’t want to have to wait any longer than necessary to change networks. Because of this, each provider will be judged on how long it takes them to complete the unlock.
What to expect when using DoctorUnlock or another recommended option DirectUnlocks?
First you will need to figure out your devices’s IMEI code. This is the unique number for your iPhone 7 that the provider needs to identify and unlock your device. There are three methods:
- Method 1: Dial *#06# and it will send back the IMEI code.
- Method 2: For iPhone 5 or newer, the IMEI number is located on the rear of the device.
- Method 3: All non-activated phones, find the little “i” button on the activation screen, click it and you’ll see the IMEI on the following screen.
2. Model of your device
You will also need to know the model of your device such as the iPhone 4, 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6 plus, 7, 7 plus, iPad 2 etc.
3. Fill out the requested details
4. Click the Unlock now! button
5. Pay the service fee using your credit card
6. Supply your email address to get updates on the unlock status
7. Enjoy your phone!
Celebrate your newly freed mobile phone within a few days.
Top 3 IMEI Unlock Providers for iPhone 7/7 Plus
#1. DoctorUnlock (9.5/10 – Use inside the USA, UK or Canada)
The #1 IMEI provider I found for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was DoctorUnlock. They’re fast, reliable, reasonably priced, have great customer support, and most importantly, unlocked all 4 iPhones we paid them for.
Their range is limited outside of the USA, Canada, and the UK, but as those countries make up about 80% of unlocks, they get my vote as #1.
PROs: The biggest pro of DoctorUnlock is that of the three unlock providers we tested, they were the only unlock provider that unlocked all 4 mobile devices we paid them for. That’s the biggest pro because it means you’re going to get what you paid them for. Simple as that.
But, that’s not the only place where they stood out. On average, they were 17% cheaper than the other unlock providers. Prices varied between phone service providers and countries, but when we averaged out the costs differences, it came to 17%.
The other area that really separated them from the crowd was their customer support. I contacted them three times — once before purchasing the unlock, once during the process, and once after the unlock was complete — and they responded quickly, with the information I requested, and in a polite and helpful manner.
Their service delivery times were the same as our #2 recommendation (an average of 48 hours), which is excellent, but not a point of difference.
CONs: The only real con for DoctorUnlock.net is their limited range of unlocks. They can free your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus from just about every phone service provider inside the US, Canada, and the UK, but you might not find the provider you want if you’re outside those areas.
OVERALL: With great prices, helpful and polite customer support, and a 100% success rate on all 4 unlocks, DoctorUnlock is my #1 recommendation if you’re inside the US, UK, or Canada.
#2 DirectUnlocks (9/10 – Use outside the USA, UK, or Canada)
DirectUnlocks is the #2 provider on the list. On customer service, speed, and price, they matched DoctorUnlock, and on range of unlocks, they have even more than Keys2iPhone, but there was one problem. They were only able to unlock 3 of the 4 iPhone 7’s we paid for…
- DirectUnlocks do a lot of things well. Their prices, customer support, and unlock speed were all the same as DoctorUnlock..
- They averaged 2 days for each of the unlocks they completed.
- They responded politely to our customer support enquiries.
- They were 16% cheaper than the average.
- The one really big pro that separates them from the rest of the providers is that they have the biggest range of unlocks available anywhere on the market. And not just by 10% or 15%; the difference is huge. I couldn’t tell you exactly how many phone service providers are on their list, but I’d guess they have just about every provider in every country in the world.
- There’s only one con here, but it’s a big one. Of the 4 iPhone 7 unlocks we purchased, they only unlocked 3 of them. They were successful with the AT&T USA, Rogers Canada, and EE UK, but couldn’t get KDDI Japan to work. To be fair, they warned that they were having trouble getting KDDI unlocked when we placed our order, but it was still a failure.
DirectUnlocks are a solid provider. They’re reasonably priced, quick, have great customer service, and the biggest range of unlocks available on the market. Whilst they only managed to unlock 3 of the 4 unlocks we purchased, they did warn us that they weren’t having success with that particular phone service provider.
#3 Keys2iPhone (5/10 – Don’t use them)
KeysiPhone are the final provider on my list, and they’re here for a reason. Sure, they managed to complete 2 of the 4 unlocks we paid for, but that was only after asking us for an additional payment that was as much as we originally paid! And if that wasn’t enough…
- The only real pro is that they completed 2 unlocks. There’s really not much else to say here.
- They only completed 50% of the unlocks we purchased.
- It took an average of 5 days to complete those unlocks.
- They only completed them after requiring additional payments of what we originally paid for the unlocks! Apparently, they had to use premium services to unlock those two phones.
- Their customer service is terrible. They only responded to our pre-sales emails and completely ignored our support emails.
- We had to file chargebacks to get refunds for two unlocks they couldn’t complete.
They completed two of the four unlocks we paid for and everything else went poorly. Their support, trying to get refunds, their unlock time, everything was poor. Plenty of cons. Not the kind of company I would trust with my money or iPhone.
Software unlocking hasn’t worked since the iPhone 3G, hardware unlocking is dangerous and will void your warranty, meaning that IMEI unlocking is the only safe way to unlock your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.
I evaluated 29 providers and tested 3 and the IMEI unlock provider you should use depends on your location.

Secrets to Unlock iPhone AT&T Safely
Can I Unlock my AT&T iPhone?
When you want to know how to unlock AT&T iPhone handsets, it pays to do a little bit of reading. There are three primary ways to unlock your AT&T iPhone. The first is to contact the original owner to unlock. The second is to contact AT&T if you are the original owner and the phone is paid. The third is to use a service that specializes in iPhone unlocking.
To make things easier for you we’ve compiled everything you’ll ever need to know in a single comprehensive guide. That way you’ll be able to choose from a range of different network providers so that you get the best deal for you. Ideal for having the choice your hard work deserves.
Let’s unlock AT&T iPhone handsets!
The issue with network providers locking handsets to their networks has been a thorny one with users for some time. There are so many better options out there if you can find a way around this unjust restriction, so it’s understandable that you’re making the jump!
Follow every step of this guide, and you’ll be able to break the chain and see what else is out there on the market. Perfect for ensuring that you have the freedom to choose the right deal for you. Before you get started you should round off Step 1 by making sure you can tick off all of the following:
- Have you paid any outstanding amount owed to AT&T for the use of their network? If not then they won’t allow you to unlock AT&T iPhone handsets. Make sure the balance is cleared, and you’ll be able to work your way through the rest of this guide!
- If you’ve bought your handset from a friend or online seller, you need to make sure that it hasn’t been reportedas stolen or been linked with any illegal activity. If it has, then it will blocked, and you won’t be able to use it no matter what you do!
- If you have recently upgraded your handset and now want AT&T unlockiPhone codes, you’ll need to wait for 14-days before going ahead. It’ll be worth the wait!
- Check the AT&T terms and conditions if you have any issues during the unlocking process. They are helpful and should be able to answer any network-specific queries or problems you encounter.
There are 3-keyways to get the job done. You can ask AT&T for help (more on that in a minute) but if you want to be fast, then take a look at these more advanced options:
- The Software Method– A loophole that closed years ago
- The Hardware Method– High-risk,low reward option that kills iPhones
- Advanced IMEI Unlock Options– #1 option for everyiPhone user
Introducing the IMEI Number – You’ll need it for my #1 method!
The next step is to obtain your IMEI number. If you’re not familiar with this term, then it is super important that you understand it before you proceed.
An IMEI is a unique identifier that tells Apple and the network which specific handset you have in your hand. It contains far more information than merely the make or model of your iPhone; it’s effectively your iPhone’s fingerprint.
Finding the IMEI Number – Make sure you find it!
Fortunately, obtaining the IMEI is the easy bit. All you have to do is follow the simple steps below, and you’ll have it in seconds:
- Turn on your iPhone
- Go to Settings > General > About
- Note down your IMEI number in a safe place
Now that you have your phone’s unique identifier, your next step is to contact AT&T. Read on and see how to unlock AT&T iPhone handsets whose contracts have recently expired.
Contacting AT&T – this may take a while.
Sure you don’t want to skip to the IMEI unlocking section below?
Knowing how to unlock AT&T iPhone handsets is all about knowing the right person to talk to. The problem you often find is that you’ll be pushed around from call center to call center and never get to speak to the same person twice. Follow these simple tips, and you’ll be able to accelerate the whole unlocking process in no time at all:
- Always ask for the name of the person you’re speaking to.
- Make notes and save themto the Cloud for ease of access.
- Always ask for a time frame in which you can expect action or a callback.
- If you don’t hear back within the timeframe, don’t be afraid to chase them up.
The Unlocking Process: When Your Contract Has Expired
Now that you know how to deal with AT&T when you contact them, you’re ready for the specific steps you need to follow. Don’t worry if you have issues or AT&T decline to help you with the following steps, we’ll cover plenty more options later on that should unlock your handset.
- The first thing to do is open your browser of choice. You can do this from your iPhone itself or on a secondary device. Often it’s easy to do it on your laptop as you may have to reset your iPhone during the process.
- Next, you will need to sign into your AT&T account by visiting: com/deviceunlock
- Take enough time to read through all of the eligibility documentation. It can be a lengthy process, and you may think that it’s designed to be confusing but stick with it and it will be worth it. If in doubt refer to the simplified eligibility requirements listed earlier on in this guide.
- Complete all of the details on the unlock request form before submitting. Just because you’re not sure whether or not a specific field applies to you, don’t leave it blank!
If you do that, then your application will most likely never be processed as they will assume you applied in error or they won’t know what to do. Always assume that AT&T will never do anything unless you give them exactly what they need. Remember that they don’t want to lose you as a customer, so it’s doubtful they will chase you up for missing information so that they can accelerate the processing of your request to be unlocked from their network.
You’ll have seen by now if you had the patience to deal with AT&T, that they are pretty hit or miss. If only there were a whole host of others ways you could free your phone from their limitedservice…
Here’s a quick rundown of the other methods that we’re going to cover:
- The Software Method
- The Hardware Method
- Advanced IMEI Unlock Options
The Software Method: A loophole that may already be closed to you
If you are lucky enough to own an iPhone X on AT&T, then this is an old-school option that’s still open to you. If however, your device is an iPhone 7 onwards then Apple has already shut this one nice and firmly.
What is it?
There was an unintentional loophole in the hardware of the iPhone 3G which enabled users to unlock it without having to consult Apple or their network provider. While it is a neat little trick, I’m going to gloss over it because it’s so unlikely that you’ll have an iPhone of that vintage which is still tied to an AT&T contract.
On to option 2: the hardware method.
The Hardware Method: A high-risk option that will invalidate your warranty
Thisis very much a brute force method to a thinking man’s problem. As you’ll have probably guessed the issue with taking this line of approach is that it can do plenty more harm than good. Precisely what you don’t want when all you’re trying to do is give yourself more choice when it comes to monthly contracts!
What is it?
The exact nature of the hardware method will vary depending on who is doing it for you; needless to say they won’t be particularly transparent or forthcoming with the details.
The main issue here is that the ‘expert’ you hire will be getting a lot of money upfront for little if no positive outcome. They won’t be a trained professional, and they certainly won’t have the skills, expertise and special tools that you need if you’re going to start fiddling around with the internals of something as complicated as an iPhone.
They’ll probably try and get their soldering iron or homemade programming modules on the case. That will cause all manner of havoc with such a carefully crafted piece of kit that it’s just not worth doing. Just remember; if it sounds too good to be true that someone can open your iPhone and unlock it for you, then it probably is.
To make sure you don’t fall foul of these misguided experts take a quick read of the risks to remind yourself of the dangers:
- The hardware approach involves working with a shady character who doesn’t know what they’re doing
- The fact that they don’t know what they’re doing will probably mean that they do more harm than good
- When someone does more damage than good in exchange for money, you always end up paying out even more money to put right what they’ve done
- Because they weren’t trained, qualified, or authorized to carry out the work on your iPhone, they will have invalidated your warranty
- When your warranty is invalidated Apple are under no obligation to help you out free of charge, and you cannot reasonably expect them to replace your now faulty handset
- All in all, you’d have saved more time, money, and effort, if you’d have just sat there on your restrictive monthly contract. At least you’d still have a working iPhone to text and call your friends with.
I think you’ve got the picture that the hardware method is never a sensible way to proceed by now. Let’s round this guide off by talking you through the final unlocking method.
IMEI Unlock Options DoctorUnlock.net or another famous users choice DirectUnlocks.com
Ok, so you’ve already obtained your IMEI, you’ve contacted AT&T and worked through all the steps above, but they were unwilling or unable to unlock your iPhone. It’s no consolation to you that the person the other end of the phone has tried their best because you’re still lockedto a network and a monthly contract that you don’t want to be paying for.
The software approach isn’t open to you because you’re not running with the vintage iPhone 3G, and you’re too sensible to try the hardware option. That leaves you with the IMEI unlock approach. Fortunately for you, this is the securest one of them all so you shouldn’t have any problems, provided you follow the hints and tipsthat are to come.
What is it?
Remember we said that your IMEI number is the unique identifier that allows you to tell your provider precisely which handset you’re using? Well, now you can use this precision to your advantage by having a specialist third party reallocate it. Confused? Read on.
The Factory Unlock
The IMEI unlock issuch an effectivemethod that it’s also referred to as the Factory Unlock in the trade. Thistells you that it has the power to get you onto any network you like, but how does it work?
When you hire a specialist third party company, they will be able to view Apple’s master database that stores the IMEI for every handset they have ever sold. It lists everything from your storage size and model to the color and whether it is locked or unlocked. By accessing this database, they’ll be able to reassign your handset from ‘locked’ to ‘unlocked.’
Why is it so successful?
Unlike asking permission of AT&T or trying to exploit hardware loopholes that had been closedyears ago, the IMEI unlock approach is a permanent and 100% safe solution. Here are the pros that you need to know about it before you decide to go ahead:
- It’s a reliable, safe, and legal approach that is used by millions of iPhone users every year
- Some trusted third-party experts will be able to carry it out for you
- You’ll be able to read testimonials on their websites from thousands of previous customers so that you know you’re dealing with an expert
- Because it doesn’t involve any hardware alterations, it won’t invalidate your warranty which means you will still get full support from Apple down the line
- You’re paying an expert to get the job done the right way which means that you’re paying for a permanent solution that won’t fall through
How to find a factory unlock expert?
To decide between DoctorUnlock vs. DirectUnlocks, I actually ran a battery of rigorous tests on a range of handsets locked to different networks. Take a look at my judging criteria below, and then I’ll tell you the results of my tests!
Are they substantially cheaper than the competition?
If so then the chances are you’re either dealing with an unreliable business who’ve had to cut their prices to try and get more business. Or possibly a startup business who may not be up to the job.
Do they give a timeframe for unlocking your iPhone?
Most reputable third-party contractors will unlock your iPhone within 5-days; the best will make great strides in 48-hours or less. If no timeframe is explicitly given, then make sure you ask the question before placing your order.
If you forget to do that, then you may find that you’re waiting for quite some time for what turns out to be quite an underwhelming result. There’s also the distinct possibility that you’ll be leftwith an iPhone you can’t do a whole lot with, in the meantime.
Do they have a list of regions and providers?
It’s important to know preciselywhat an unlocking contractor can offer. If they have a comprehensive list of the regions they serve and the networks they can get you on then, that’s a fantastic resource. Make sure you make proper use of that.
Some companies will offer lots of options if you live in North America or Europe, but a lot less if you live in other parts of the world. Make sure the company you go for has plenty of network options in your region, and that they have a track record of getting people reassigned to those networks.
Anything else to consider?
Any reputable third-party IMEI unlocking company will talk you through the process and should be able to free your iPhone from AT&T within five working days. To make things a little bit easier for yourself why not take a quick look at our final checklist so that you can sleep with the peace of mind that you have everything covered:
- Make sure you check which payment methodsthey accept. You want the security that they accept card payments or PayPal. If someone asks you for cash or a payment method you’re not familiar with, don’t be afraid to walk away. You’ll be glad you did once another company unlocks your handset!
- Always ask for turnaroundtimes and make sure you’ll have unrestricted use and access to your iPhone’s full suite of functionality in the meantime.
- Always steer clear of companies that ask you to send your iPhone to them, or ask for other log-in and financial details. There’s no need for them to have this information to get the factory unlock taken care of.
The Verdicts – 3 Unlocking companies, only one winner
DoctorUnlock – Perfect for North America and the UK
Of the three companies that I put to the challenge, they were the only ones who were able to unlock all 12 handsets. Thisis a feat in itself and one that certainly caught my attention. A 100% success rate isn’t something you can better, sothey have my vote in this respect.
The only thing I would say that slightly counts against them is that if you live outside of the UK or North America, then you don’t get quite the same level of choice. That said, they market themselves as experts in these regions not worldwide.
DirectUnlocks.com – The leaders when it comes to the rest of the world and a creditable second
These guys do so much right that they were only just edgedinto second place. Their unlock rate only dipped below perfection due to one tricky curveball I threw at them.
They did struggle to unlock one of my handsets, andthere’s just no getting away from that, unfortunately. To be fair to them, they said this would likely be the case when I placed my order, butthey did have the option of canceling it. They struggled valiantly but to no avail. Credit where credit is due, their customer service was excellent throughout the whole process.
I don’t want you to think I recommend every IMEI unlocking service without much thought, so I also had a look at these guys. They’re known to be a bit hit or miss, sothey were a useful yardstick to measure the performance of the other two against.
They unlocked half the handsets…eventually…
The phones that were unlocked took twice as long as with the other two unlocking services. Plus their customer support was vague and noncommittal.
If you want to get AT&T to unlock your handset for you, then there’s every chance that you’ll be waiting forever and a day for it to happen. I strongly recommend the IMEI unlockroute as it’s the most universal and comprehensive way to free your iPhone from restrictive networks.
If you’re in North America, Canada or the UK, then use DoctorUnlock
If you’re anywhere in the rest of the world, then I strongly suggest using DirectUnlocks

How to unlock iPhone X XS XS Max or XR?
Many mobile users are faced with the prospect of having to put up with poor service and ever-increasing prices from their carriers because they are locked to them. This means that when you buy your brand new iPhone, it is tied to a carrier before it even leaves the Apple factory. The solution? Get busy unlocking your iPhone X or iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max or iPhone XR today!
The process relies on something known as an IMEI unlock. This is a safe and reliable way to free your beloved iPhone X/XS/XS Max from the inconsistent service of its locked-in carrier so that you can use it abroad without extortionate roaming charges, and have the freedom to shop around for the best deal.
If your iPhone X is locked to a provider inside the US, the UK, or Canada, then I strongly recommend DoctorUnlock. They have the most comprehensive range of unlocks inside these regions and accompany them with service, prices, and turnaround times that are the best on the market.
If your iPhone X is locked to a provider outside the US, the UK, or Canada, then I suggest DirectUnlocks. They can cost a little more than UnlockBase, but they offer by far the biggest range of unlocks for the rest of the world. If that’s where you live then, I can’t recommend them highly enough
Time To Master iPhone Unlocking
Your iPhone X has just arrived. It’s the coolest, easiest to use, most powerful, most advanced phone that has or ever will be made! You know it, and the world knows it! But there will be a catch; there’s always a catch… It’s tied to a carrier, which means that they can charge you as much as they like and treat you as badly as they like and there’s nothing you can do about it!
Phone locking with a little help from Apple makes this possible because it means that even though you have parted with your hard earned money, you can only use your shiny new device on your original network.
The only way to get around this is to explore the world of iPhone unlocking. It may sound like something akin to codebreaking or hacking, but there are a host of reputable companies out there who will take care of it for you.
Unlocking your iPhone X is a case of finding a company who knows the right tricks to get your phone free from your carrier. That’s all there is to it!
To save you hours Googling around I’ve put together a few notes about the three methods you’ll find when you search.
Method 1: The Software Approach
(This hasn’t worked once since the iPhone 3G)
This is the oldest technique, and for a while at least it was successful. The iPhone 3G brought with it a loophole that users were able to exploit to change carriers.
Unfortunately for the clever people that figured this out Apple closed it as soon as possible with the introduction of the iPhone 4. This means it is of no use to those lucky people like you who are holding the X right now!
Method 2: The Hardware Approach
(Users Beware: This Is An iPhone KILLER)
A brute force approach that works 30% of the time involves some less than reputable people, and will likely kill your iPhone. It doesn’t sound like the way to go about things now does it?
Not only is it hit or miss, but it’ll also invalidate your warranty which means Apple won’t step in and take the hit for you. Best avoided by anyone who wants to keep their iPhone X in one piece…
Method 3: Unlocking Your iPhone X/XS/XS Max with an IMEI Unlock
(The ONLY Approach That Works For Your iPhone X)
This is the latest and most advanced way to free your new iPhone X from the tyranny of excessive charges and poor service. Your IMEI is a unique identifier that Apple uses to track your device over its lifetime. It’s a safe and secure method to go about things, and there are a number of reputable companies that specialize in doing just that so that you can have the freedom to choose!
The iPhone X IMEI unlock method changes what is recorded in Apple’s database by reassigning your device’s status from locked to unlocked. Because it is safe, reliable, and doesn’t invalidate your warranty, this is the method that I recommend above all others.
Time To Test The IMEI Specialists
The explosion in iPhone sales has resulted in a huge growth in the number of businesses claiming to be experts in the field of IMEI unlocked. The problem is finding a company you can trust that offers value for money.
I’ve surveyed numerous big names in the industry for previous iPhone models, and now the time has come time to put them to a serious test. By checking how they stack up against the features, Apple has added to the iPhone X; you’ll get a great idea of who you need to go with to free your device.
Selecting My Test Cases
I’ll be honest and say that the hardest part of this was finding a dozen people willing to let me play with their iPhone X’s for a few days! It was a hard sell but through the help of few people who always come through for me I got it done and selected the following locked devices:
- 1 x iPhone X’s locked to AT&T USA
- 1 x iPhone X’s locked to Sprint USA
- 2 x iPhone X locked to Vodafone UK
- 1 x iPhone XS locked to O2 UK
- 1 x iPhone XS locked to T-Mobile USA
- 2 x iPhone XS Max locked to AT&T USA
- 1 x iPhone X Plus locked to EE UK
- 1 x iPhone XS Max locked to KDDI Japan
- 2 x iPhone XS Max locked to Rogers Canada
Choosing The IMEI Providers To Test With The iPhone X / XS /XS Max
I began by using the reviews on places like TrustPilot, Ripoff Report, and Trustmark Reviews to get a feel for which companies were worth a closer look. With hundreds on the market, it was a question of getting rid of the scams straight away so that I could spend my time looking at the professionals. In the end, I narrowed it down to three and opted to test multiple devices with each of them.
I acted like a customer first and foremost when interfacing with the companies, rather than a tester. This extended to sending them reasonable requests and queries during the process to try out their customer service. I paid particular attention to how their pre-sale and post-sale communication compared with each other.
The Judging Criteria
To make the testing as comprehensive as possible, I devised 6-criteria that would allow me to endorse the best service in all areas at the end.
1: Can they unlock the iPhone X
It’s an obvious one really isn’t it? If they can’t do it, then they’re a waste of money and time, and we certainly don’t want that.
2: What is their range of services like?
I never want to recommend a provider that unlocks in an instant but then offers a really limited choice of carriers they can put you on. The aim is to give you the freedom to choose, not to free you from one carrier and then give you a really poor selection of choice.
3: Are they reasonably priced?
There’s no point finding a service that does it all if it’s more than the cost of your iPhone X. We’re looking for value as well as amazing service and flexibility after all.
4: What payment methods do they offer?
So many online businesses make paying far more difficult than it needs to be. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve found restrictions on PayPal or credit card payments and subsequently given up and gone elsewhere. If the process is going to run smoothly, then you want a team that makes payment simple, after all, they should want your money if they’re a serious business.
5: How effective was their customer service?
I want you to be dealing with a company that puts you and your iPhone X first. You don’t want to be unable to use it for long periods of time after spending all that money on it. Prompt responses are what they need to provide if they are to build your trust and get the job done the right way.
6: How fast are they?
We’re looking for a company that gets the job done professionally. This means that not only do they do everything they say they will, they also get it done in a timely manner. The stress and annoyance caused by long delays is something we’ve all experienced, so I’m keen to make sure I only recommend a service that takes care of the work in the shortest time possible.
Using DoctorUnlock.Net or you can also get your iPhone X Unlocked by visiting following link DirectUnlocks
Step 1: Find your iPhone X IMEI code.
This is a unique identifier that you need for the method to work. You can find it in any of three ways:
- 1: If you dial *#06# you will be sent the IMEI code
- 2: You can copy it down on paper from the rear of your device. Please make sure you double check it before submitting it.
- 3: If you haven’t yet activated your iPhone X then you need to find the small “i” button that appears on the activation screen. Clicking on it will then display your IMEI.
Step 2: Next you need to know which model your iPhone is. Yours will be iPhone X.
Step 4: Now click on the “Unlock” button.
Step 5: Decide on your method of payment and then enter your details.
Step 6: Add your email address to receive timely progress updates on your unlock.
Step 7: Enjoy the freedom to choose which carrier your iPhone X goes with!
The 3 Leading Providers of IMEI Unlocks for your iPhone X
The testing is done, the analysis is complete, now for the results!
#1. DoctorUnlock(9.5/10 – The definitive #1 choice for iPhone X owners in North America and the UK)
The standout IMEI unlocking specialist for both the iPhone X is definitely DoctorUnlock.net. They unlocked all four devices I paid for which gave a quite impressive 100% success rate. Not only that, but they did so for a great price and in good time. Their customer focus came through and they really did a good job all round. Let’s take a closer look at what they did right during my testing.
Pros: They were the only one out of the 3-companies who unlocked every single device. This is ultimately what you would expect from a professional organization, and with a 100% success rate, their performance in this regard couldn’t be beaten.
On average they come in an at an impressive 17% cheaper than the competition. This is a great indicator that they offer value for money. Perfect for ensuring that you don’t pay more than the cost of your device to have the freedom to use it as you wish.
Their customer service was truly outstanding. They responded to all three of my queries within 24 hours which is exactly what I was looking for. This customer-focused approach to unlocking will enable them to build your confidence during the process.
Only the second entry on my top 3 could match their average unlocking time of just 48 hours! This is very impressive and a definite plus point that has played a big part in coming top of the pile.
The Cons: I always try and find an area where a provider can improve. It was hard, but I would say that customers outside of North America and the UK aren’t given the same level of choice when it comes to new carriers. That said, if you do live in these two regions then you are onto a winner!
The Overall Rating: A 100% unlocking rate is something that is highly impressive. This was matched by their turnaround time, price, and customer service. If I were being hypercritical, I would say that their range of services is much better for users in North America and the UK than those outside. This, however, is a minor point if your location isn’t a factor.
If your iPhone X is locked inside the US, UK, or Canada, use DoctorUnlock today.
#2 DirectUnlocks (9.0/10 – The leading choice if you are outside the USA, UK, or Canada)
The battle for the top spot was a very closely run contest. The only thing separating the two companies was surprisingly the unlocking reliability. DirectUnlocks failed to unlock one of the four devices that I paid for. This wasn’t great as I paid for it, but there is so much good about this company that they still came in a very strong second.
The Pros: They do an awful lot right. They are quick, efficient, customer-focused, well priced, and easy to deal with.
The really eye-catching thing about their service was the number of unlocked options available and the extent to which these were available in regions right around the world. I don’t have an exact number because to be honest, I lost count, but I think it was every carrier in every country by the look of things! This is fantastic for those living in more remote or less well-covered areas.
The Cons: The significant failing has to be the inability to unlock the KDDI Japan device I paid for. They did their best and warned me prior to purchase that this may be an issue. At the same time, I can’t help feeling that they should consider removing this as a service they offer until it is 100% reliable. That said, the customer service side of things really softened the blow and left no ill-feeling.
The Overall Rating: A highly professional company who offer a comprehensive choice, broken down by carrier and region. The main reason they aren’t at #1 right now is that the unlocking rate during testing was only 75%
If you have an iPhone X that is locked to a carrier outside the US, UK, or Canada, I suggest using the team at DirectUnlocks.
#3 Keys2iPhone (5/10 – AVOID)
The fact that this company was bad is one thing, but it was really exacerbated by the fact that I was using two much better companies at the same time. Honestly, they were truly awful and so unprofessional.
The worst thing was the demand for an extra payment for the same amount before any actual unlocking took place. Even with that additional spend they only had a 50% unlock rate rich is laughably poor.
The Pros: Some phones were unlocked…
The Cons: Here we go!
1 They only managed to unlock half the phones
2 They took on average 5 days and seemingly endless prompting to do even that which to me was the worst thing about the whole experience.
3 They asked for extra payment that wasn’t declared at the original time of purchase. This irritated me as it wasn’t clear and came across as very unprofessional.
4 Whilst their pre-sale responses were great they made zero effort to reply after the money had been paid. This made me feel like they didn’t care about the customer and that they were completely disinterested as to whether they provided a useful service.
5 I had to file two chargebacks to cover the money for phones which were never finished. This was drawn out and completely unnecessary.
The Overall Rating: A dreadful service from beginning to end. I would never recommend this company and they were highly unprofessional. The poor unlocking rate of only 50% was one thing, but for me the worst part was complete disregard for the feelings of the customer. Never responding was a series black mark. Buyers beware!
When it comes to freeing your new iPhone X/ XS /XS Max from your carrier so that you have the freedom to choose it is important to remember that hardware and software unlocking don’t work. One will destroy your iPhone X whilst the other is so outdated it didn’t even work on the iPhone 4! The only way forward that makes sense and actually works is IMEI unlocking. This is a safe and reliable process, and is also known as factory unlocking.
I looked at a huge range of IMEI providers and used review sites to narrow it down to what appeared to be three of the best. I found the result to be strongly based on your region.
If you have an iPhone X that is locked to a carrier inside the US, UK, or Canada, then DoctorUnlock are the people you need to deal with. They specialize in these regions and provide a range of services at prices that cannot be beat. When you factor in their best in class 48-hour average turnaround time then you are onto a winner from day one.
If you have an iPhone X that is locked to a carrier outside the US, UK, or Canada, then DirectUnlocks are the team I would use. They came level with UnlockBase in every category bar the unlocking rate. At only 75% they did miss one of the phones, but to be fair I was told about the likelihood of this happening prior to purchase. Their comprehensive range of services make them the clear choice for users in regions not covered in such depth by UnlockBase.

How to unlock your iPad
SUMMARY: There are three ways to unlock your iPad: Software unlocking, hardware unlocking, and IMEI unlocking. Software unlocking doesn’t work on tablets and hardware unlocking is dangerous and will void your warranty.Of these three processes, the only safe and reliable method is IMEI Factory Unlocking.
If you have an iPad locked to a particular carrier, the only safe way to unlock it is with an IMEI Factory Unlock. This is safe, will protect your warranty, and give you the freedom to use any carrier in any country, whenever you want.
Of the 11 IMEI Unlock providers I reviewed and three I tested, the best provider is iPhoneIMEI. They have the cheapest prices, fastest unlocks, best customer service, and most importantly, were the only unlock provider who actually completed all three unlocks I sent them.
IMPORTANT: This article will teach you how to unlock your iPad from its phone service carrier. If you need to unlock your tablet from its iCloud account, go to our iCloud Unlock service provider review here.
If you’ve done any amount of research into unlocking, you’ll know there are two important things you need to keep in mind before you purchase an unlock:
- That you’re using the right method (there are three different methods)
- That you’re using a legitimate provider
I know both of these are critical because I’ve been stung by both. Not only with my iPad, but also with my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. But it doesn’t matter whether you’re unlocking your iPhone or iPad, you have to watch out for the same scams. Here’s how to avoid them.
Which iPad Unlock method should you use?
As I’ve said, there are three types of unlocks available on the market. But, as with any choice in life, there are pros and cons of each. And if you’re going to unlock your iPad and still both keep your warranty and make sure you tablet is still working, you need to know the difference.
Method 1: Software Unlocking
(Hasn’t worked since 2009)
The first unlocking method developed was the software unlock. This involved downloading hacking software from an anonymous source somewhere in mother Russia, installing it on your phone so that it could hack into your iOS operating system, and then hoping it worked. Which is sometimes did, but other times didn’t.
Unfortunately, Apple became aware of the loophole this hacking software was exploiting to free their iOS devices and closed it before the release of the iPhone 3G. This was in 2008; well before the release of the first iPad.
So, if you read about people unlocking their iPad with hacking software, laugh at them for still owning an iPhone 3 and not knowing the difference 🙂
Method 2: Hardware Unlocking
(Dangerous and will void your warranty)
The second unlocking method to make its appearance on the market, and the first that was available on iPads, was hardware unlocking. Hardware unlocking is where you find some dodgy looking guy in an even dodgier looking back alley to physically open up your device, fiddle with its circuits, install new wiring, and close your it up.
And before you ask, yes, it’s as dangerous as it sounds. Best estimates put the success rate of hardware unlocking at around 30%, with the other 70% leaving with a broken device and angry stares from large, angry men. The worst part about this method is that even if hardware unlocking works for you, your warranty is voided and you’ll have to pay for any future repairs to your iPad.
Does a 30% chance of success with a guarantee of losing your warranty sound like a sound choice to you? No, me neither. That’s why you should stay WELL away from hardware unlocking.
Method 3: IMEI or Factory Unlocking
(The only safe method for iPhone SE Unlocking)
The growing demand for iPad unlocking, and the unreliability of software and hardware unlocking, meant that there was a big demand and no solution. That’s when some clever soul worked out that there’s another way to unlock: IMEI or Factory unlocking.
An IMEI is a unique serial code attached to every iPad. Apple keeps a database of all the IMEIs in the world and alongside that, stores information about that iPad, including the model number, memory size, production date, and most importantly, whether or not that tablet is locked to a particular network or unlocked and available to use on any network.
IMEI or Factory Unlocking is where someone with access to the Apple database changes your devices status from locked to unlocked based on your IMEI. There’s no software to download and no-one has to open up and play with your iPhones circuits. All they have to do is change your iPad’s status and you’ll be free to use your tablet on any network in any country.
IMEI unlocking is the only safe method and the only one you should use.
Which iPad IMEI Unlock Provider Should You Use?
The surge in demand for iPad IMEI Factory Unlocks has resulted with the market being flooded with providers. And with all markets, some of these providers are better than others. And when I say that, I mean that some of these providers are complete scammers and some of them will actually free your iPad.
To make sure you got the device unlocked you needed, we’ve road tested these providers to let you know which ones are legitimate and which ones are a scam.
Why I’m Qualified to Tell You This
As you can imagine, there are no formal qualifications in iPad unlocking which means I obviously don’t have a university degree in unlocking. But what I do have, which is even more important than any piece of paper stuck on my wall, is experience.
My first unlocking experience was back in 2008 when I first encountered AT&T’s sub-standard service and decided I needed to change carriers in a hurry. Since then, I’ve lost an iPhone 4 to hardware unlocking and unlocked over 30 iPhones and iPads through IMEI unlocking.
I’m as much of an expert as you’ll find in this space and that’s why I’m qualified to tell you this.
iPad IMEI Unlock Provider Testing Process
The process I used to test IMEI providers was simple.
The first step was to create a list of every provider who claimed they could perform the service on iPads. This left me with a list of 11 providers. Once I had that list, I went through various review websites, such as TrustPilot and Ripoff Report to eliminate obvious scammers. This left me with only 3 providers who appeared to be able to legitimately unlock iPads.
The next step in this process was to test these providers to see which one performed the best and which one was simply posting fake reviews. To do this, I needed iPads. You can’t test a service provider without using their service, so I put the call out to my mailing list to find anyone who needed an iPad unlocked. Of the 51 people who responded, I chose 9 to test. They were:
- iPad 2
- iPad mini
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini 3
- iPad air
- iPad air 2
- iPad Pro (12.9 inch screen)
- iPad Pro (9.7 inch screen)
This gave me three devices per IMEI Unlock provider and allowed me to test all the different iPad versions.
How I Judged Their Performance
There are 5 criteria I used to judge the performance of the various providers. They were:
Criteria 1: Range of Unlocks
The first thing you need when you’re choosing a factory provider is that they have your unlock. Obvious, right? Because of this, the first criteria I judged these providers on was their range of unlocks. The more carriers they could unlock you from, the higher they scored.
Criteria 2: Price
No-one wants to spend more money than they have to, this is obvious. Because of this, the second criteria I judged these providers on was the cost of their unlocks. The cheaper, the better… mostly. P
rice was used more as a tiebreaker if more than one provider ha
d the same range, success rate, and speed because there’s no point in being cheaper if you can’t deliver 🙂
Criteria 3: Customer Support
What’s the point of a huge range of unlocks at a great price when there’s no-one there to respond to your email messages asking ‘What’s going on?’ To make sure these providers not only can unlock your iPad but also talk you through any challenges along the way, we contacted each provider three times over the course of the service process.
The first contact we made was before we placed our orders to see how responsive their pre-sales team was. The second contact we made was after we’d purchased our order but before the unlock was completed to test their customer support. And the final contact we made was after the service was completed to test just how committed they were to giving us a good customer experience.
This was done for every attempt and every provider was scored on the average of their responses.
Criteria 4: Success
The 4th criteria is the most important: success. Did they or did they not unlock the iPad? Simple as that. If they weren’t able to unlock any, they failed. If they managed to complete some, then they got a conditional pass. And if they unlocked all three, then they were winners.
Criteria 5: Speed
The final criteria is speed: how quickly did they complete the service? Obviously, the faster the better.
Steps to expect when using an unlock provider
1. Have your IMEI code available. This is the unique number for your iPad that the 3rd party provider needs to unlock the correct device. Its easy to find the IMEI number:
- Method 1: Dial *#06#
- Method 2: On your iOS device, Go to Settings > General > About and then scroll to find your device’s IMEI
- Method 3: Look on the back of your iPad (cellular models), and you’ll find the IMEI number near the bottom. If you have the packaging , look for the IMEI number on the barcode label.
- Method 4: For non-activated phones, there is a little “i” button on the activation screen, click it and you’ll see the IMEI on the screen
The Top 3 iPad Unlock Providers
After purchasing 9 iPad IMEI factory unlocks from 3 providers and waiting for the results, here is the list of the top iPad providers.
#1 DirectUnlock.com – 9.5/10 (The top choice to unlock your iPad)
Of the all the providers we tested, DirectUnlock.com are our #1 choice. Here’s a breakdown of how they performed.
PROs: First of all, and most importantly, they were the only unlock provider who unlocked all three iPads. If the success of your unlock is a high priority (and I’d be concerned if it wasn’t), then this should be enough of a reason for you to choose them.
But that’s not the only reason they’re #1 on the list.
The second reason they’re #1 is that they’re also fastest provider I tested. The average time it took them to unlock an iPad was 3 days. When you consider the number of iPad unlocks they’re processing and what they have to go through to get this done, 3 days is remarkable.
The third reason they’re #1 on the list is their customer service. The average response time to the pre-sale, post-sale but pre-unlock, and post-unlock emails I sent them was an hour and twenty minutes. That’s more than good enough for me.
And the final reason they’re #1 is the price. You’d expect the only unlock provider who can deliver on what they promise, in the fastest time, with the best support, to charge a premium for their services, but UnlockBase.net don’t. Their prices are between 10% and 30% cheaper than their competitors.
CONs: I struggled to find anything to put in here. I like to try and be very even-handed with my reviews to make sure that people know exactly what they’re getting themselves into, but I couldn’t find something I would list as a serious con.
The only thing that could be a slight con for some people is they don’t accept Paypal as a payment method. If you’ve got a Paypal account but no credit card, this might be an issue, but if you have a credit or debit card, they can process your payment.
OVERALL: UnlockBase are the #1 unlock provider we reviewed because they were the only one to successfully complete all three iPads. But, to make this victory more comprehensive, they also did it with the best prices, the fastest unlocks, and the best customer support. You’re welcome to try another iPad unlock provider but to be honest, you’ll just be wasting your money.
If you need to unlock your iPad, visit DirectUnlock now.
#2 iPhoneIMEI – 7.5/10 (Use if UnlockBase aren’t available)
The #2 provider on our list is iPhoneIMEI. They’re our most recommended choice after iPhoneIMEI but they do have some drawbacks (most notably: not completing all three unlocks we purchased). Here’s a breakdown of their performance:
CONs: Unfortunately, we need to start the review with the cons, because they’re significant. Of the three unlocks we purchased, they were only able to complete two of them. Yes, they refunded our purchase straight away and were very apologetic about their failure, but there’s no getting around the fact that they failed to complete the service we purchased.
The other con is that they only display their prices in Brittish Pounds (£). This means that in order to work out how much the unlock’s actually going to cost you, you need to use a currency converter.
This doesn’t necessarily make the unlock any more expensive, but it does add additional time and effort to purchasing their unlock.
PROs: Despite the fact that they only completed two of the three unlocks and only display prices in British Pounds, there’s actually a lot to like about iPhoneIMEI. They have a huge range of unlocks, which is great if your iPad is under contract with a more obscure carrier and can’t find it anywhere else.
They also have excellent customer service, which includes phone service. This means you can actually speak to someone about the unlock status and get someone to talk you through any issues you’re having.
The two unlocks they were able to process were unlocked in 4 days, putting them a little longer than DirectUnlock, but not too far away to damage their rating.
OVERALL: DirectUnlocks have a great range of unlocks, can process them quickly, and have great customer support to back their service up. They only managed to complete two of the three unlocks we purchased, but they were very apologetic and gave us an immediate refund when they failed. If DirectUnlock aren’t available and you need your tablet unlocked, Official iPhone Unlock is a good choice. Visit their website here:
You can visit their website here: iPhoneIMEI
#3 IMEICodes – 5/10 (Not recommended)
The final iPad provider we tested is IMEI Codes, and before you get any further, I need to warn you that I think they’re a scam site. Despite what their online reviews said, they didn’t come anywhere near close to being able to deliver on their promises.
CONs: Let’s start with the cons once again.
First of all, they failed to unlock any of the device IMEIs we sent them. Not one. Zero. Nothing. To make things worse, their customer support is also so poor that we didn’t know if they’d completed the unlocks until well after their promised completion date.
But this isn’t the end of the problems. They continued to claim that they’d unlocked our iPads when they hadn’t, and so refused to give me a refund.
At the end of the day, I was stuck with three locked tablets and three chargeback requests with my credit card provider.
PROs: Their pre-sale sales team is excellent! 🙂 Other than that, there’s nothing nice to say about these guys.
OVERALL: Stay away from them. They’ll take your money, give you nothing in return, and you’ll have to fight them through your bank to get your money back.
If you’re crazy enough to check out their website, you can do it here: IMEI Codes
To Wrap It All Up…
Of the three iPad unlocking methods available, the only safe and effective method is IMEI Factory unlocking. It will allow you to use your iPad on any carrier in any country, without voiding your warranty or putting your iPad in any harm.
Of the 11 iPad IMEI unlock providers we reviewed and the 3 we tested, the only provider who completed all three unlocks was iPhoneIMEI. They also had the best prices, fastest unlocks, and the best customer service.

(Updated Testing Results for 2019)
Feeling trapped on your cell phone carrier’s network? Want to move your locked iphone to another company but can’t?
The latest generation of smartphones can be expensive, but it is fun to keep up with the cutting edge of technology. For many, the best way to get the latest and greatest gadget is with carrier based payment deals. But there is a massive downside to this – carrier locks.
If you have bought a iPhone in the last few years using a deal pushed by a cell phone network, then you know the pain of the carrier restriction.
With a carrier restricted phone, you end up stuck to one network, unable to take up great new deals or sell your phone when the next upgrade comes out.
There’s an easy solution. I am going to show you how to defeat that dreaded carrier lock and access the full use of your new phone.
With a freed up phone, you will no longer be trapped to one single network.
Also when you travel, you’ll be able to use local SIM cards, which is important if you are a frequent traveller. Most importantly, you will be able to change your phone or data plan whenever a new deal comes out.
Networks are now competing against each other for your business. New deals with more minutes and better data quotas come out every day. Not being able to change networks to take advantage of those deals puts you at a massive disadvantage – and ultimately – causes you to spend way more money.
Why Do Carriers Stop Me From Unlocking My Phone?
Unlocking your phone is not all sunshine and good times though. Carriers are holding you down for a reason…profits. Because of their money-hungry policies, they have done their best to make the process of removing the carrier restriction difficult.
Finding the right way to unlock your phone can be a minefield, where taking a wrong turn can end in disaster. The problems you encounter when trying to release your phone could ruin your day.
Sounds risky right?
Luckily, I have done all the hard work and made all the mistakes before so that you don’t have to. Do not fall for a scam or brick your iphone, so pay close attention.
There is one guaranteed, sure fire way to unlock your iphone without all of the risks. It is not well known or heavily publicized. But in my own extensive experience, it never fails to successfully and safely release any version of the iPhone.
Are you ready to find out the best way to remove that pesky carrier lock from your phone?
Then pay attention because I’m about to take you on a deep-dive into how carrier restrictions work and how you can get rid of them forever.
How Exactly Do “Carrier Locks” Work?
By now, you may be wondering exactly how carrier locks work. Before we go any further I am going to give you the basics. It is always important to understand the enemy after all!
Carrier restrictions are a ‘feature’ built into new iPhones by manufacturers. This custom firmware, which is integrated into the phone at the hardware level, can be used to create a variety of locks by network providers.
They do this to keep you stuck in a contract for a defined period of time.
Thus making enough profit from you to justify the discounted price of the phone. There are three broad categories of restrictions that can be applied:
- Country Lock:
This is not a common type of restriction these days, especially not with flagship phones like any version of the iPhone. This lock stops you from using any SIM card from outside of a particular country. This type of restriction is particularly bad if you like to travel overseas!
- Network Lock:
The network restriction is by far the most commonly used. It keeps you tied to a particular network so that you cannot change between providers and remain a captive customer. Having a network lock on your device impacts the resale value.
- Subscriber Lock:
For the very best deals on phones, you may even find a subscriber lock. This is by far the most restrictive and results in you only being able to use a particular SIM card in the phone. Selling a device like this is close to impossible.
Wondering how I know so much about carrier restrictions on phones?
I have gained this knowledge through years of working in the mobile communication industry and from actually seeing this phenomenon spread.
I can still remember the very first (very ancient by today’s standards) phone that I purchased with a carrier restriction. I knew I got a good deal because of the lock, but figured that with my technical skills, I would figure a way around it. Boy was I wrong about that!
For weeks I was stuck in a struggle with the phone, trying to unlock it without ruining it. I had to get way deeper into how the phone worked than I ever wanted to and spent hours trawling through countless online guides and forum posts.
Needless to say I did succeed, but not without massive effort. Once I figured it out I helped as many others as possible. However, every time a new model was released, the options for safe unlocking diminished as carriers and manufacturers tightened the loopholes.
Now, for cutting-edge phones there is one guaranteed way to remove a carrier restriction.
Here’s how to access the full potential of your phone with this legal, quick and safe method. First let’s take a quick look at the other common methods people try.
The most common ways to get any version iPhone unlocked
I’ll share the best option that’s guaranteed to work every time – However, I also feel a duty to show you all of the options, including the ones to avoid. My hope is that you can then avoid falling for some of these other methods, which can look great on paper, but really won’t work.
The interesting thing is that some of these bad options did work a long time ago, but have been made redundant by carrier or manufacturer innovations. If you read one guide on phone unlocking methods, make it this one.
Software Unlocking: No longer a good option.
Right when phones started getting ‘smart,’ software unlocking was the go-to method. At one point in time, I used it successfully myself.
These days, software unlocking can be risky based upon who the provider is. There are many software choices that do not work at all. Since the heyday of this method, just about every manufacturer and carrier on the planet has stopped this from being a viable option.
Hardware Unlocking: Possible but High Risk
Hardware unlocking is the riskiest option out there, as it involves actual physical alterations to your phone. This method first became popular when phones were far less complex that they are now. It involves physical alterations that circumvent the hardware that allows carriers to set their restrictions.
Many years ago, I experimented with this option and did have success. But with modern phones, I would not even think of attempting this complex procedure and anyone who offers it to you is either a genius, or ripping you off.
An iPhone is an intricate machine and no dodgy phone shop or backyard operator can be qualified to alter it. This method is almost always expensive due to the labor needed and very unlikely to work with new phones.
Not only does hardware unlocking fail most of the time, I guarantee it will void your warranty and possibly wreck your expensive new phone.
IMEI Unlocking: The Safest Way to Unlock Your Phone
We have finally arrived at the number one, fail safe way to unlock your latest phone. Although in the past other methods have had brief windows where they have worked, IMEI unlocking is timeless and guaranteed to keep on working time after time.
The IMEI number is a unique number assigned to your device and is also the key to releasing it from carrier clutches.
Carriers who still restrict handsets do so with the IMEI, which is stored in a centralized database. When you put an unsupported SIM into an IMEI locked phone, it asks you for a password. If you can get this password, then you have yourself a device that can be used freely.
You might think that to get this, you would need to interact with your carrier and pay an exorbitant fee, but you would be wrong.
It is possible to remove the IMEI restriction on your phone using a third party service for a fraction of the price your carrier charges.
Interested to find out how this works? You better be, because it is the only viable option.
The Secret Method to Unlocking an iPhone That Most People Don’t Know
As you have gathered from the options outlined above, there is just one good option for iPhone unlocked and that is using the IMEI code. Everyone assumes that this process is difficult or risky, but in reality it is the only legitimate and risk free option available.
Yet there are still objections to using IMEI unlocking, which I would like to address now so that there is no confusion.
First of all, a lot of people have the idea that it is illegal to unlock a phone that is under contract with a specific carrier. To be clear, not paying for a phone according to a contract is not encouraged, but actually unlocking it is not at all illegal.
Carriers have made it difficult to remove their restriction because there is no law stopping you, only the artificial roadblocks they place in your way. You should not feel guilty in any way for unleashing the full potential of your handset.
Another common misconception is that you have to go through your carrier to get an IMEI code for your device. Years ago, this was the case and it was a frustrating and expensive process.
Things have moved on from the bad old days and there are now a number of IMEI unlocking services provided by third parties which are very cost effective. The power has been taken away from the carriers and they no longer have a monopoly on restricting phones.
Finally, a lot of people shy away from unlocking their handset because they think it is going to be a costly experience. The truth is that it has never been cheaper to free-up a new model mobile telephone.
I was there in the beginning of handset unlocking and have seen some expensive methods used, but IMEI unlocking is definitely not one of them.
With the RIGHT third party provider, you can safely remove an IMEI restriction for a little as $30.
When you consider the overall price of a modern mobile device and what carriers charge for the same service, $30 is peanuts in comparison.
When you consider the savings you could make by changing to a better deal on another carrier, can you afford not to unlock your handset?
Want to know the best IMEI unlocking service that’s guaranteed to work every time?
I’ve used this countless times myself, so I am going to introduce you to the best and most reliable IMEI code service on the internet today. I use this service with confidence day in and day out for myself and for customers who want full access to their device.
DoctorUnlock – The most reliable unlock service
Here’s a step-by-step guide to the best unlock methods on the market today.
Best Unlock Service Provider: DoctorUnlock – 9.5/10
DoctorUnlock is the best service available today that cheaply and without fail will release your handset, removing the carrier restriction that is present.
Once you have used the IMEI code service and paid a one time fee, you will be 100% free to change your carrier and use any SIM card that you want in your device. This service is completely web based and as long as you know the IMEI number of your device, you will be able to pay for the code.
Finding the code itself is easy and free, as long as you follow the instructions of the unlocking service.
It cannot be overstated how useful having an unrestricted phone is. I would never again accept a phone bound to a single network and you shouldn’t either.
Here’s why I use this particular service:
The great news is that unlike other methods, using an IMEI code on your handset is completely legal and risk free. While other methods like those mentioned earlier in the article are likely to void your warranty, you can use an IMEI code and still maintain your manufacturer warranty. Considering the already low price of these IMEI code services, it would be silly to risk losing your warranty with any other method.
- Easy to Use:
Getting your unique IMEI code to get your iPhone unlocked could not be any easier. There is no additional software and no cables needed. All you need is your phone’s IMEI code, which you then provide to the unlocking service – they do the rest for you. It is so easy that you can follow the steps yourself on the provider’s website.
- Completely Online:
Everything is available online these days and IMEI unlocking services are no different. You do not need to visit a shop or trust your expensive handset with a stranger. Everything is done using an online interface and happens very quickly. Even if you only thought of unlocking your phone a day or two before you leave on vacation, you still have time to use an IMEI code service!
- Immediate Results:
When using an IMEI unlock service, you can expect almost immediate results. For most handset models, especially modern variants, you will receive a code to remove the carrier restriction from your phone almost instantly upon providing the correct details and paying the service fee. It is almost never too late to unlock your phone.
The greatest thing about IMEI unlocking is that the service is dirt cheap. I can still remember when unlocking phones was a real art form and those who could do it charged accordingly. Today, IMEI code services have made the process so easy that they can offer you very competitive prices. With the savings on carrier costs and the increase in the resale of your handset you can expect after unlocking, it would be silly not to do it.
- Note: the service will not work any phones that are reported lost or stolen by the network providers.
Now is the time to act, so let’s look at how you can order an IMEI unlock code today and enjoy free and unrestricted use of your iPhone.
Get Your Guaranteed iPhone Unlocked Today
By now, the benefits of removing the carrier block on your phone should be obvious. You can change SIM cards at will both domestically and overseas and also increase the resale value of your handset.
You can escape the clutches of the carrier and regain your freedom. Previously, achieving this freedom was a real effort with expensive and dodgy services making big promises, but rarely delivering.
However, now with online IMEI unlock services, you can safely and easily unleash the potential of your brand new handset, even if it has a carrier restriction.
Ordering your IMEI unlock could not be any easier. They explain in easy to follow steps on their own website, but I will also outline it for you here as well.
- Go to the DoctorUnlock.net
- Follow the guide on how to locate your phone’s IMEI number (the unique number that identifies it). This step is totally free and has easy to follow instructions.
- Select your type of device from the menu, and enter your IMEI number into the order form.
- At this point you will need to process the payment for your imei. Once you have paid, all you need to do is sit tight and wait for your phone to be unlocked. Easy right?
- Once you have the email confirmation, remove your old SIM and insert your new SIM. When you turn the device back on, it will detect the new SIM and ask for your code. Put the code you were sent in and enjoy!
By now you are probably itching to get out there and get rid of your carrier lock. There is no need to search the internet for an IMEI unlocking service though, because I have you covered.
I have looked at all of the major services out there and through trial and error have found the very best option. By using the service that I recommend, I personally guarantee you will get the very best service and a flawless buying experience.
You shouldn’t just take my word for it though. DoctorUnlock gives its very own guarantee. If your code does not work as advertised, they will work with you to fix the problem, or provide you a full refund without any drama.
They really go above and beyond, providing top level service which is why I won’t hesitate to recommend them.
You could try some dodgy method to unlock your phone using hardware modification or software, but I think by now I have been able to show you why these options are not worth it, especially when they can void your warranty or destroy your device.
The only option that you should consider is using an IMEI unlocking service like DoctorUnlock. You can do this with your carrier, but it is much easier and cheaper to use a third party service and save yourself all the hassle.
It doesn’t get any better than that right?

How To remove iPhone Activation Lock Removal
Summary: Did you purchased used iPhone recently and saw that the phone is locked to previous owner’s iCloud account? If the iPhone you have purchased having iCloud lock, that means no matter how much money you have paid for used device, still former owner can get you blocked from using it. Apple added a new feature in iOS7 at the start of 2014, which completely changed how iPhone accounts were accessible before. Though, it was a small quirk called iCloud Activation Lock. The new change added to iOS7 (followed by iOS 10, iOS 11, and iOS 12) is that your Apple Watch, iPad, and iPhone devices can be locked to your personal account of iCloud.
That means the moment you restart or switch on your Apple device, you need to insert your iCloud credentials like username and password to fully access the files, functions, and features of device.
It is not big deal when you are only using your Apple Watch, iPad, or iPhone, but when you purchase second-hand device from eBay or StarGazer77, and previous owners either does not remove or provide you their iCloud details, the phone is literally useless.
Then, it does not matter you reset the device, jailbreak it, let the battery to be consumed completely, or even pay to some hackers to hack into it, you just won’t be able to use that phone. As a result, your $500 are completely wasted and you are left with most expensive but useless electronic device you have ever bought.
In reaction to huge demand which raised all of a sudden from frustrated consumers who had legally bought iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch devices and were unable to use it, some innovative people started examining the different approaches to bypass this barrier.
Apple tried and shut down several bad starts and loopholes, but ultimately, one flawless and reliable loophole emerged. As of today, you can easily get iPhone activation lock removed and use your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch for which you have paid your money.
Choose the reliable iPhone Activation Unlock Service Provider
When the market saturated with iPhone activation lock removal providers, it became hard to tell which service providers will properly get your phone unlocked from iPhone activation lock of iCloud and which was a scam trick setup to cheat you.
After getting scammed three times by different unlock solutions, I decided to review and test most of them to find out which was the most efficient and effective.
Why I am qualify to tell you about it
There are no any degrees or certificates here in iCloud unlocking. Therefore, there are no “experts” in the field of iCloud unlocking. Although, there is one factor of ‘testing’ which does make me more of an expert than others.
I have reviewed 9 of providers and tested 3 of them on almost all active iPhone models. And, this simple fact that I have tested those services makes me the expert in this field.
There are other reviews that you will find but most of them have not reviewed even one actual carrier, put aside reviews of all 9. That is why, I qualify to guide you about this.
Four easy steps for unlocking the device
There are four easy steps you need to follow for iPad, Apple Watch or iPhone activation lock removal in order to perform iPhone activation lock bypass.
Step 1: Visit one of the iPhone activation lock removal servicesthat we have reviewed and recommended to you in this guide below
Step 2: Enter the Serial Number or IMEI of the device you own
- If your device is active: Dial *#06# to receive IMEI code or just go to Settings -) General -) About, scroll down to find IMEI code.
- If your device is inactive: there is a small icon of “i” located on activation screen. Just tap that button to receive your IMEI code.
Step 3: Now, wait for confirmation message which will say that iCloud has been unlocked
Step 4: Finally, open up a new account and start using your phone.
This tool works on almost all iPhones including 4S, 4, 5C, 5S, 5, 6 plus, 6, 7 plus, 7, 8, 8 plus, X, XS, XR and iPad 2, iPad Air 2, 3, 4, iPad Pro
Test Methodology For Having to Bypass Activation Unlocked
The approach of conducting these tests was really easy. At starting, I just googled for iCloud unlock service providers and created the list of all I had found. After eliminating the names of service providers that did not seem to be active or working, 9 services were left eventually.
The next step for me was to cull the list further and I was left with my best three. As, I wanted to test each service provider completely, and so it was not quite possible to comprehensively test all nine service providers. For that, I immediately jumped to review websites like TrustmarkReviews and RipoffReport in order to remove unreliable service providers.
I thoroughly look at all the reviews and calculated each service provider’s average score. Then, I removed service providers with lowest scoring and was left with three for testing.
In order to determine I have enough devices to completely test each service provider, I interact with all of my readers to receive the iPhone devices which required unlocking. As, I wanted to connect with people from different countries using different iPhone models.
From 73 people who replied, I selected 18 of them to test:
- 1 – iPhone 4
- 1 – iPhone 4s
- 2 – iPhone 5
- 2 – iPhone 5c
- 3 – iPhone 5s
- 2 – iPhone 6
- 2 – iPhone 6 Plus
- 3 – iPhone 7
- 1 – iPhone 8
- 1 – iPhone X
Then, selected people sent IMEI of their devices to me and I started the process.
Criteria of Testing
There are 4 criteria on which iCloud service providers were tested.
The prices were varying hugely between services. Some of them were as low as $15 while rest were as high as $149 dollars. There are only some people on this planet who can buy services without need to care about prices, hence this was the very first point where we started to examine the services.
Giving the device details and piece of cash to an unknown site to process the service you don’t know very well can be a difficult situation, but interacting with good supportive people on the other end of services’ customer support line can make this very easy.
We thoroughly tested and analyzed the customer support of each provider three times during this unlocking process:
- Before purchasing
- After purchasing but before unlocking was done
- After unlocking was done
It was done to get complete understanding of who actually wanted to help and who were there just to grab your hard earned money.
It does not matter with affordable prices and good customer support if they cannot deliver what they promised? Because of this reason, ‘Success’ was set as third criteria. It is a simple criteria of Pass/Fail. If iCloud account gets unlocked or iPhone activation lock bypass successfully: it’s a success. If it is not: it’s a failure.
Having iCloud account unlocked is good, but waiting a bit long can be annoying. Comparing apples with apples; here we did not judge the service providers on how much time they have stated it will take to unlock iCloud account but exactly how much time it took actually to unlock them.
After examining all this bunch of data, I can say with full confidence that below are the best services of all.
Top 2 iPhone Activation Lock Removal Service Providers
Not all iPhone Activation Lock Removal Services are same. Some of them have very low price rate but not having good customer support line. Some will reply to your emails in just five minutes, but would take about one month to get your iPhone unlocked.
After examining and testing 9 services, these two are the best ones:
1.AppleiPhoneUnlock – 9.5/10 (Best iPhone Activation Lock Removal)
My number one iCloud unlocks service choice is AppleiPhoneUnlock. We have tested it on the basis of 4 criteria defined above and it came first in all three best choices.
Firstly, AppleiPhoneUnlock unlocked all devices that we sent to them. The devices they were assigned to unlock include iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, 8, and XS, and they completed each one of devices (the only provider to do so).
Secondly, they quickly unlock all devices. The overall time duration for finishing eight iPhones was 15 days. Below is the breakdown:
- iPhone XS – 2 days
- iPhone 8 – 2 days
- iPhone 7 – 3 days
- iPhone 6s – 2 days
- iPhone 6 – 2 days
- iPhone 5c – 1 day
- iPhone 5s – 1 day
- iPhone 5 – 2 days
Now, when you analyze that most iPhone activation lock services take minimum time of week, this one is stellar.
Thirdly, they have best customer support. I interacted with them previously, during unlocking process, and after process completed, and maximum time they kept me waiting for reply was 45 minutes. More preferably, when I contacted them, they were very helpful, polite, and replied to all my queries properly.
Finally, this is the cheapest service providers of all. It may be $1 cheaper than our second best choice, but the fact that we are in a world where every single dollar counts, so it is good to have it in our own pocket rather than any other’s.
Nothing really is there to write unfortunately. We do suggest that you read their caveats and terms for the service.
I always try to write my reviews as much as pure and unbiased as possible and still I don’t have right know anything to add here. Could they have all iCloud accounts unlocked in less time? Sure, they could have, but it would not have made much difference. Could their customer service have replied in less time than 45 minutes? Sure, but it would not have created much difference.
As a whole, nothing is really to add here.
The only service who unlocked all of six accounts was AppleiPhoneUnlock and so, it was my first choice. Still, if it was not enough, they have cheapest price (even if it is only cheaper by $1), they have really great customer support, and finally they are the fastest.
if your iPhone device is having lock to an iCloud account of someone else, you need to use AppleiPhoneUnlock.
2.0 LockWiper – 9/10 (Best Software Unlock Option)
The second choice of mine is LockWiper by iMyFone. While CellUnlocker is a service, LockWiper is a software you download.
If you got a used iPhone without a password screen lock but it is linked to an iCloud account, LockWiper can be still used to remove the iCloud activation lock within few minutes.
Based on our tests, LockWiper is highly effective if your iPhone is determined as a valid candidate for their unlocking feature. The software is very user friendly and easy to use. It doesn’t require any technical knowledge. It is works with all versions of iPhones, iPads and all versions of iOS, from iPhone 4 up to iPhone X and up to the latest iOS.
The software is extremely fast. Our test phones were unlocked within minutes. You can also download the free trial to test if your iPhone or iPad is valid for an unlock. Unless, you see the message “Your Device Is Not Supported” you can use their software.
- Be aware that all data on your iOS device will be erased after password removal. So, unless you had backed up your iPhone recently, you may not want to use LockWiper.
- Your iOS version will be updated to the latest one.
There are not many cons to using this service. While CellUnlocker is a handoff method, this requires you to download some software and follow some easy steps to unlock.
LockWiper by iMyFone is a reliable software option and there are higher-than-average chances you will get your iPhone unlocked.
Getting iPhone device locked to iCloud account of someone else really sucks. And so, they can blackmail you and force you to pay amount they wished to get access to device you have already paid for. Surely, no person wants that situation. If you are having your iCloud account locked or facing iPhone unlocked problem, there are many services available and you can beat their scams without paying a cent to them.
From 9 iPhone activation lock bypass providers we found and tested 2 of them; there are two strong options. In the end, LockWiper only lags slightly due to the need to download software and follow some steps to unlock the iPhone or iPad yourself. However, the steps are very easy to follow for anyone.

Whether you’re buying a new or pre-owned iPhone, it’s a good idea to take a look at whether it’s locked or unlocked. This can have a big impact on what mobile carrier you’re able to connect with as well as the price you pay for your new phone.
You can’t tell just by looking whether your phone is unlocked though, which is why we’re here to help you check on the status of your iPhone before you buy it.
What is an Unlocked iPhone?
The lock is essentially a software code that’s put on the iPhone by the manufacturer to meet operator requirements, attaching the iPhone to a carrier. This means that an unlocked iPhone is a phone that isn’t limited to a particular carrier.
You can switch your phone from one network to another and it will still work just fine. Usually, iPhones bought directly from Apple will be unlocked.
If you buy your phone used or from a specific carrier though, the phone is generally locked until the contract is completely paid off, or until the previous owner’s contract is paid off.
Since iPhones are not branded by specific mobile carriers, you can’t determine the carrier just by looking. You’ll have to check whether the iPhone is locked or not if you’re buying and would like to switch your carrier.
How To Check If iPhone is Unlocked
Unlocking your phone is important if you’d like to change carriers, which is why many people like to perform this check on the iPhone before they buy one.
You have a few different methods you can choose from to perform this check, the simplest one being the SIM card check.
Is My iPhone Unlocked – SIM Card Check
All you have to do is take out your iPhone’s SIM card and put one in for a different carrier. Make a phone call using that SIM card and see if it connects. If the phone call doesn’t connect, then the iPhone is locked.
You can try this method easily if you have a friend using a different carrier for their phone, although not everyone has a SIM card readily available to them.
You might be able to walk into a store for a different carrier and ask to borrow a SIM card though.
This might not work for all other carriers, but some are very accommodating and will simply hand you a SIM card for a few moments. It should only take a few seconds to have your answer.
How to Know if iPhone Is Unlocked – Check Settings App
Head on over to your Settings app and tap into the Mobile Data and Mobile Data Options. Check to see your Mobile Data Network – if you see the option for your network, this means that your phone is unlocked.
If you do not see the option, it won’t appear on locked iPhones. This isn’t completely effective though and should be double-checked.
Call Your Carrier
This solution is a bit more difficult and may not always work, since carriers do not always tell you whether the phone is locked or unlocked over the phone. However, it’s the surest way for you to know the status of your device.
Keep in mind that this method takes some time, since you have to wait for the carrier to get back to you. You may have to spend time on the phone with customer service, but you will know for sure.
Find Your IMEI Number
You can actually use a couple online tools to check if your phone is locked using its IMEI number. This is the serial number of your iPhone that communicates with Apple servers and provides all the information you need about your Apple device.
You’ll have to pay about three dollars to perform the check, but a few tools are free after you locate your IMEI number. You can find your IMEI number using a few methods. First, you can take a look at the back of your iPhone to see if it’s there, or head on into Settings then to About.
You can also find the IMEI number by connecting your phone to your computer and launching iTunes. Just go to Device Summary and click on the phone number.
You also have the option of checking your device’s original packaging and barcode, or even looking at the SIM card tray in some cases.
How To Know If Your iPhone Is Unlocked – Online Tools
Once you have that IMEI, your checker will let you know whether your phone is locked or unlocked. However, it will not unlock your iPhone for you. Regardless of what checker you use, make sure it has GSX access, which connects right to Apple.
This will provide you with the most up-to-date information about your iPhone. You can find this out by looking at the website you’ve chosen to see if there is a GSX report in the “Next Tether Policy” value. This is a solid service from iPhoneIMEI for checking your IMEI that costs $3: Click Here
After you’re sure of your website, input the number, prove you’re not a robot with the captcha and take a look at the information given to you by the website. Then, look for the Lock Status to see if you’re locked or unlocked.
Word of Caution
If you’re buying a used iPhone from someone, of course you’ll want to know whether it’s locked or not. However, also check to be sure that it’s not on the GSM blacklist. This is a list of stolen phones that can be identified by their IMEI numbers. You can check this with IMEI checkers or by contacting any wireless carrier. Once you’re sure of your phone’s status, contact a mobile carrier if you’d like help getting it unlocked.
Technology can seem daunting at times, but knowing whether your iPhone is locked or or not doesn’t have to be complicated. Perform a couple of these checks to see if your phone is unlocked and whether you can use it on another mobile carrier.
Even though you can’t tell your phone’s status just by looking at it, our tips make it easy to purchase your phone with peace of mind.

Criteria No. 1: iCloud Activation Unlock Pricing
The service providers seem to charge a varying amount for unlocking the iCloud Activation lock on iPhone and iPad devices. While some of the contenders charged as low as a measly $15 fee for the unlocking service, the cost went all the way up to $149 for the more premium names in the business. Since you probably bought a used iPhone to save money, it is important to consider the price factor, which is why we’ve mentioned it right away.
Criteria No. 2: Customer Support
There is a reason why not just Apple, but every major mobile manufacturer keeps the IMEI Number of the device tucked away in a hidden menu. The ability to identify devices and prevent theft is the very reason each mobile device is offered a unique IMEI Number. Now imagine giving away this confidential IMEI Number to an unknown website and on top of it, handing over your hard-earned cash can certainly be unsettling at times. Hence we made it a point to test out the customer support provided by these unlocking services three times during the entire process:
- Before making the purchase with the service provider.
- After making the purchase but before the unlocking process has been completed.
- Once the iCloud Activation unlock process has been completed.
Criteria No. 3: Success Rate
A low price point for the service, profoundly quick and helpful customer care support means only so much if the entire process does not yield the appropriate results. The biggest qualifier in terms of choosing the best iCloud Activation bypass tool is whether you were finally able to have a solution to how to bypass activation lock on iPhone is whether the unlock process actually works at the end of it all.
Criteria No. 4: Speed of the Process
Having an iPhone unlock service provider that works is great, but the amount of time you have to wait for the unlock process is also a determining factor in the hunt for the best one out there. Rather than taking the word of the service provider on how they “usually” take to help with the iCloud Activation unlock process, we assessed the time required ourselves to find out definitive results.
Best iCloud Activation Bypass Tool
Since no two unlock service providers can be same, we’ve tried the very best to break them all down based on the criterion above. After hours of hand-tested results, we’ve concluded that the two service providers listed below are your best shot to unlocking your iOS device which has been rendered useless due to the pesky iCloud Activation lock.
AppleiPhoneUnlock – 9.5/10 (The Best iCloud Bypass Activation Unlock Provider)
We’ve picked the AppleiPhoneUnlock.UK to be the frontrunner in the race to being the best tool for unlocking Apple iCloud Activation lock which has plagued thousands of users for years now. When tested based on the criterion that has been established above, AppleiPhoneUnlock came out with flying colors, beating the competition and most importantly, ensuring an unlocked iOS device each time.
Out of the several iPhone and iPhone unlock service providers that we tested out, AppleiPhoneUnlock was the only one to complete the request to unlock all of the iPhone and iPad models provided. Since it was the only one among the competitors to be able to do this, it gives the service provider a leading advantage.
Based on the test we conducted using the 12 different iOS devices IMEI Codes that were sourced from our readers, the unlock service provider was able to unlock all of the devices within a total record time of 24 Days.
- iPhone X – 2 days
- iPhone XS – 2 days
- iPhone XS Max – 2 days
- iPhone 8 – 3 days
- iPhone 7 – 2 days
- iPhone 7 Plus – 2 days
- iPhone 6 – 1 day
- iPhone 6 Plus – 2 days
- iPhone 6s – 2 days
- iPhone 6s Plus – 1 day
- iPad Pro 2018 – 3 days
- iPad Air – 2 days
Speaking of the customer service that AppleiPhoneUnlock provides, we did not spend more than 45 minutes in wait time when reaching out to the service provider. All of our questions before, during, and even after the completion of the unlock process were answered promptly, politely, and in a helpful manner. In regards to the price, this service is just $1 cheaper than its nearest competitor, but when it comes to savings, every dollar counts right?
We looked long and hard, putting every aspect of the service provider under microscopic view before concluding that there are no deal-breaker downsides to the AppleiPhoneUnlock iCloud Activation unlocking service. It would be unfair to grill the service provider over the fact that the customer representative took around an hour to respond or the unlock process could’ve taken less than 2 days per device, since AppleiPhoneUnlock still beats every other name in the business in delivery time, which forces our hand to mark it as nearly flawless.
DoctorUnlock – 7.5/10 (Closest Bypass Activation Lock Competitor)
When you look at DoctorUnlock individually, it stands no less than one of the best service providers for the solution on how to bypass activation lock on iPhone. However, since it is being compared to a service which is, in our opinion, possibly the best unlock service out there, the flaws in the workings of DoctorUnlock begin to show. Yet, the service provider comes off as a strong contender and has plenty of reasons for which it is the next best thing in the world of iCloud Activation unlocking.
Right off the bat, this unlock service provider, when put to the test with a list of 12 different iPhone and iPad devices, was able to successfully unlock 11 of the devices. Since most service providers that we previously check out offered barely a 50% success rate, DoctorUnlock trumps them easily.
Speaking of the overall duration that it took the service to unlock the 11 iOS devices, it was certainly more than what was advertised. It took the DoctorUnlock service around 30 days in total to complete the unlocking process for 11 devices, but the service provider delivered nonetheless.
- iPhone X – 3 days
- iPhone XS – 2 days
- iPhone XS Max – 3 days
- iPhone 8 – 3 days
- iPhone 7 – 4 days
- iPhone 7 Plus – 2 days
- iPhone 6 – 2 day
- iPhone 6 Plus – 2 days
- iPhone 6s – 3 days
- iPhone 6s Plus – 1 day
- iPad Pro 2018 – 3 days
- iPad Air – Unsuccessful
The customer service and support was not as quick to respond as the competitor service provider, but we did get insightful and friendly response within a few days of launching each query. Additionally, the fact that the service costs just $1 more than AppleiPhoneUnlock, helps it stay in the race.
First things first, the service provider may have a decent track record when it comes to unlocking the test devices, but it still failed in unlocking one of them. While it was prompt to refund our money for the failed attempt, it still counts as a failure when it comes to delivering a success iCloud activation unlock experience.
In regard to the delivery time, it took DoctorUnlock as much as double the time that it took the topper on the list. Albeit, taking 3-4 days to unlock an iPhone or iPad is certainly not a deal-breaker, but the fact that AppleiPhoneUnlock is able to do the same in 1-2 days makes it far more desirable, especially since it is cheaper, even if it’s just one dollar.
Finally, when it came down to the customer support, the difference in receiving a response after a few days, and getting a friendly and courteous response from AppleiPhoneUnlock within an hour certainly made an impact.
