It is very easy to misuse and break the chargers for our iPhones or iPads. But considering that these are items that we use every day, it’s not surprising that they are easily damaged. A new charger can be sourced from nearby stores, but breakages usually happen at the most inconvenient times. It is a good idea to be prepared for these eventualities, so a hardware malfunction will not lead to an escalation of challenges.
For all kinds of different web-based projects, you need to make a professional website to generate the most interest. This is now easy to achieve – with no expertise needed and in a shorter space of time.
Check your charger is working
The first step is to determine where the fault is occurring. iPhone or iPad chargers consist of two parts: the lightning to USB cable and the Apple power adapter. Older iOS devices come with a dock-style cable that is slightly larger. If other parts are available, each component can be changed to establish what is causing the problem.
To find out if the power adapter is broken, try using another adapter. Or connecting your device through the cable directly to a laptop, portable charger or other devices. If the iPhone or iPad can charge in this way, the issue will either be with the adapter or the plug socket.
Use a different cable to see if this is the source of the problem. You can also use a different plug socket, as the one you are using may be faulty. Another possibility is that the iOS device is not working properly, in which case it may need to be taken to the Apple Store to be serviced.
It is most likely that the problem is with the cable or the power adapter. But the plug socket or the device could also be malfunctioning, so the socket should be changed for a different one. Another iOS device can also be tried out with the iOS charger to ensure the charger is not working.
Repairing a broken cable
Apple lightning cables and the older cables that preceded them can break relatively easily. Where the port meets the cable, the plastic coating can become twisted and worn down. This causes the wires to become exposed.
One solution is to use gaffer tape to reinforce the vulnerable areas or use one of the Apple accessories that can achieve the same purpose.
Those who are capable electricians may be able to use a soldering iron to repair damaged wiring, but this should only be attempted if you have the required skills and equipment.
For most people, the easiest option will be to purchase new lightning to USB cable at just $19 from a nearby Apple retailer, or alternative phone shop.
Repairing a broken power adapter
In most cases, it is not easy to open an iOS power adapter to repair it. This should only be tried by people skilled in electrical repairs. Often the amount of glue used in the power adapter interior makes this virtually impossible.
An Apple 12W USB power adapter can be purchased from the Apple Store for just $19, or alternatively from a third-party vendor. The 12W power adapter charges faster than the 5W power adapters that are also available.
It is recommended to keep spare USB to lightning cables and USB power adapters in case you find one of these suddenly stops working. Our Apple devices perform essential everyday functions, so we need to keep them charged at all times.
