Lamp Switched On, Rails Illuminated #
Got some mails from you folks wanting to report the feature story at O’Reilly’s ONLamp.com, a whopping five-page intro to setting up a Rails environment on Windows. Written by Curt Hibbs, who maintains the Windows Installer, WxWindows bindings and his half of FreeRIDE.
This is an awesome article. Thick and juicy with screenshots and not a dull moment. Each page sensibly cruises through Ruby, then through a few database tables, then fleshing out a simple cookbook application. This is definitely a hot link, pass this ON. Curt, we’re proud of you, well done.
We should offer a translation for OS X.
I totally adore the little graphic they gave Rails. Mama, we got the loot. Let’s gid outta here! Choo-choo!
This is rich. It’s all been slashied. Someone call Natalie Portman, I have hot grits in my pants.

Nice article.

Thanks for the timely post, I’d installed Rails for the first time five minutes earlier, run the rails command and then thought “um, what do I do now”.
I found the tutorial very helpful. The “Exercises for the Reader” at the end was a good idea.
I did get stuck for a while until I discovered I’d been spelling ”recipies” incorrectly my entire life!

RubyForge is getting a good workout, but the new hardware is holding up fine. I haven’t seen the load get over 0.25 or so.
I’m glad that all the Windows Installer downloads are coming from Austin’s mirror server, though. It’s been downloaded about 700 times so far today – that’s over 7GB of traffic!

Tom Copelan, wow 700 times.. thats many times. How many more than usual is this? How many do you think is caused by the article+slashdot today?

Hi Simon – it’s up to 1000 downloads today as of about 5 PM my time… I bet it’ll get over 1300 or so. Whew! Usually it gets 200-300 downloads per day.
