You know, I still find metaclasses in their present incarnation to be awkward and surprisng to use.

I could live without them—provided a reasonable alternative were provided. And that’s the catch. I’ve not seen one.

More thoughts:

I think metaclasses are reaching for lesser-surprise and cupcakes via efforts like why’s metaid.rb, and darned if they haven’t become indispensable to me, but I feel like there’s still more to be done…

This thing with metaclasses trying so hard to be their parent classes, only not… do you think it’s really helpful?
