Two Things #

by why in cult

First, I’m sure you’ve read a lot of the ruby-lisp equivalence discussions over the weekend. This is great stuff, I hope it gets deeper and we can find some good middleground. The way I feel about Lisp is the way I feel about socialism. Neat ideals and I really wish they worked on humans!

And, secondly, there’s a Ruby Advent Calendar going on over at The Farm, which will excavate a new Ruby link between now and Christmas. Looks like he’s hired the foxes for their amazing talents of cacophonous self-promotion. They’re good kids, I wish them well in their side gigs.

Boy, those Lispers are pretty loud.

I still don’t like all those dang parens.

Hey, Why!

I figured that you wouldn’t mind my borrowing the foxes for the Ruby Advent Calendar. Thanks!

I can’t do anything about it, man. And you really have to watch them or they will eat all your strawberry souffle.

Oh you Ruby kids. You don’t get it. It’s all about the parens. When is vim going to let me put the cursor on “end” and hit ”%”, anyway? (Seriously).

Not that (Common) Lisp doesn’t have flaws. First rule of Lisp club, don’t talk about the flaws.

I’m waiting for Mr. Matzguidowall to come along, say “The syntax, she is good. The ANSI spec, she is bad.” and create a fun new Unixy-oriented Lisp dialect.

Sounds like a vim problem, not a Ruby problem. Perhaps you’d like to try a better editor?

Hey Lisp bigot, when you guys come up with something which is half as good as RoR, you can make all your “lisp club” remarks. Until then, keep yer parens shut.

seriously, since you’re sooooo smart, why can’t you guys come up with something that you are generous enough to share with your community? kinda like LispOnRails.. I mean its just a stupid little language trying to be Lisp right? so why can’t Lisp have the same level of useability?

oh wait, you don’t really have a community. Every lisper for him/herself.. thinking they’re gonna make the next million, so why share? eh?

Hopefully, like the real “club” your club is not just in your mind :)

all this non-sense talk and the only killer product you have is Emacs. that’s pretty pathetic.

A couple of years ago. How can you be a lisp bigot and still use Vim, anyway?

When I’m Galactic Ruler of the Universe, I’m going to lock all the Lisp programmers in a room with all the Smalltalk programmers and let them fight to the death. Then I’ll kill the survivors.

On my way out I suppose I should mention that, in addition to emacs as a Lisp “killer app”, there’s AutoCad. Well, ok, it’s a separate dialect of Lisp, but still.

Hehe!

Yikes. My two favorite languages are fighting again.

So is Emacs.
