I am also experiencing FlashHater’s problem; I could have sworn a mocking laugh also emanated from my speakers but an examination of possible window.onload listeners revealed nothing.

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 15:58

YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 16:00

Alas, I—like the hater of Flash—cannot bypass the norwink despite my proper hosts file. Has the IP to point at in the hosts changed?

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 16:03

Yup. I just checked

I’m prohibited by personal creed from assisting in any way. It would alter the course of nature!

I’ve been winkin since before there was an internet!

how how how how??? pray tell please begging on my knees

Like all things in life, even hoodwink.d cannot totally stay out of the omniscient eye of Google.

Kinda like Sauron, but less evil, yet more creepy.

Ah the famous 0 Unix timestamp. You’re a certified oldschooler for sure.

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 16:58

Sorry, everyone, registration was broken down for a bit there.

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 18:14

A couple of links in the third box of http://hoodwinkd.hobix.com/ appear to be busted.

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 19:33

good to be back :)

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 20:02

anyone that used to be able to but can’t might be using a proxy or Google Web Accelerator… also, the IP looks like it changed…

said on 21 Apr 2006 at 23:01

I don’t understand. I got the email. I can log in fine. I installed the latest user.js. But winks don’t show up. And wasteland is a blank wasteland. Have I angered you? Did someone banish me from the club?

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 00:07

Ahh. The themes were my undoing. They seem to be not found. Fortunately, a theme does not seem to be necessary. I’m loved again!

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 00:22

I was playing with a new default theme. It’s ecmanaut’s at http://hoodwink.d/static/themes/3/. When you use it, it feels like Hoodwink’d broken, but no, you have to hold the Ctrl key to see anything.

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 00:45

It must be the ‘static’ part of the URL —did that change at some point? My theme was set to http://hoodwink.d/themes/1/ and I was seeing:

GET /themes/1/template-debug.html?328

<div>
<h1>Camping Problem!</h1>
<h2>/themes/1/template-debug.html not found</h2>
</div>

Now that winking is working again, I’ve seen ecmanaut’s posts in wasteland, and his theme sounds very nice. I’ll have to give it a try.

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 00:46

Oh, bother. All my hard work typing in those <’s and >’s gone to waste. Curse you, preview pane!

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 08:39

I’m all wink.d up and read.y to go.

said on 22 Apr 2006 at 09:00

For some reason, Safari doesn’t even attempt to resolve that hostname.

said on 23 Apr 2006 at 10:26

.com is the One True TLD .

said on 23 Apr 2006 at 14:00

I like that Ecmanaut’s theme, but I’d find it even snappier if a keypress made the winks appear, and another keypress made them disapear again.

said on 23 Apr 2006 at 20:29

I have found the new IP, and gotten to the hoodwink.d, but no matter what url I go to on it, its all the same… blank, even the source code is the same (but not blank). Am I missing something?

said on 23 Apr 2006 at 23:53

bhiller, look up to _why, note the theme, enjoy

said on 24 Apr 2006 at 16:08

When I add a site, I get an error message from camping.

I too am stricken with the problem of getting the norwink page, even though my hosts file is configured properly. I am on mac osx if that helps. Let us wink sir Why, let us wink

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 03:42

Carter: So far I have only had trouble with machines on the ground floor of a building. Which floor is your machine on? Think carefully before you answer.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 06:43

arn_nd. It is on the second floor. Although, the Windows computer on the groud floor works…?

The actions of this bug are mysterious and ineffable, and probably completely random.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 09:43

Well, if you’re getting the norwink page, then your hosts file isn’t configured properly. If I were you, I’d try clicking on the upper reaches of the left hand of this page.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 10:15

Look man. I’m talkin’ about identical files here, man. I don’t mean to be frontin’ and such, man, I’m just sayin’ it looks like a bug to me. Man.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 11:35

Why, exact copy of the file there. I load up hoodwink.d and it just gives me the norwink. The IP is resolving, just your software is blocking it

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 11:59

The norwink page indicates the browser is hitting the old IP. Maybe hop on #hoodwinkd and the folks there can help you.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 12:37

Okay a thing that has happened is that I tried again and it started working. I’m going to assume that a cycle of “clear hosts file, restart, refill hosts file, restart” did it some good.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 13:15

Sending HUP to lookupd helped me.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 15:17

Perhaps I should reiterate in realspace what I said in winkspace: I don’t know about IE, but Firefox only reads /etc/hosts once, on load. You need to restart Firefox to catch any changes you make to the hosts file.

said on 25 Apr 2006 at 20:48

Now Winkin works, but adding a site throws a nice big camping error, same one as above.

said on 26 Apr 2006 at 15:00

MySQL server seems down now.

said on 26 Apr 2006 at 20:26

/me stabs sql server
