Heh, Mmmnn, Perl People #

by why in inspect

From the Jifty pages:

Jifty is written in Perl. If you’re familiar with Ruby, Perl might feel like Ruby’s quirky big brother.

Kxxxx! Audrey Tang day-hacks on it, says it’s “a very advanced web application toolkit.” Anyway, (from Anarchaia.)

“Quirky” is something of an understatement, IMO …

said on 03 Jan 2006 at 17:45

Underrated. If they keep at it and figure out the marketing, watch out! RT is some potent stuff and I remember the code quality being quite good. Jesse Vincent’s just the sort of chap to pull off a worthy Rails competitor.

um, btw, what do Mmmnn and Kxxxx mean? I’m so ignorant of these vowelless nonacronyms…

said on 03 Jan 2006 at 18:24

Mmmnn is an acronym for Mmmmmmmmnn.

And Kxxxx is an acronym for Kxxxxohhhhh.

Why all those Rails clones? Doesn’t Ruby do the job?

Anyway, support diversity.

said on 03 Jan 2006 at 22:41

wow, for once Perl is defined in terms of Ruby, instead of the other way around…..

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 08:52

and wouldn’t that make Ruby Perl’s pretty li’l sister….suddenly I feel like a dirty old man

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 10:56

I guess this means you should change your ~autrijus sidebar link to ~audreyt or something.

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 11:46

Right, forgot that. Also added a link to the new O’Reilly group blog.

Is autrijus the same person as audreyt? I’m confused.

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 15:38

man-with-hat-and-mustache: autrijus has had some surgery and a name change.

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 15:41

This entry is messing with people’s heads on so many different levels, isn’t it?

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 18:14

MenTaLguY: so you’re saying that autrijus was a male but is not anymore? (is this for real or some sort of hoax?)

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 18:29

Clown fish do that (you know, the Nemo fish). Start life as males and end life as females. Not as automatic for people, though, and one wonders how one would find time to do that and do all that pugs stuff too. I wonder if perhaps something else might be afoot.

As a fish, I presume you speak for fish everywhere. Hi!

For Mr HatBrimEyes N. MoustacheMan, Here’s an official diagram.

said on 04 Jan 2006 at 19:12

I might look like a fish, but I want to be a squid.

said on 05 Jan 2006 at 02:59

grin Writing it up that way amused me and I’m glad that reading it amuses y’all.

said on 05 Jan 2006 at 07:14

I’d like to echo what Jesse said. :-)

The transgender thing is definitely for real, although I did not set out to mess with people’s heads…

said on 05 Jan 2006 at 10:04

Jesse: It’s a classic.

Audrey: Just by following your use.perl journal, sounds like you’ve had a tough year. But your mood sounds much improved! So, that’s glad.

said on 05 Jan 2006 at 11:06

Yeah, 2005 was both the worst and best year in my life so far—but now in 2006, life is wonderful and getting even better.
